I had a 2 post hoist put in about 3 weeks ago from these guys http://www.carhoists.com.au/products.html Bloody brilliant makes life much easier and I use it as a parking hoist when not in use. $2700 installed

Definitely needs to be bolted down properly.

I would find out if the concrete slab is a waffle pod before putting in a hoist, they dont have a lot (thickness) of concrete in some places

We have a two post and we poured the slab with a recess and bolts/studs set in it so the hoist would slip straight it and bolt down with no fuss and having it level with the floor is awesome.
We had a fire a year ago so we replaced the hoist with the same make/model of hoist, they were both second hand the first was $150 and the second was $500. If you contact some hoist repairs they might have some cheap ones for sale.

A two post hoist is a pain for everyday parking, you have to watch the door every time you get out of the car.
Then there is the hassle of swinging the arms under the car before you can lift it. They are great for working on a car but a pain for parking a car.

I have seen the portable 4 post hoists. They look very good.
The portable 4 post you can actually move them with a car on the hoist! Not while the car is lifted, only while it is lowered.

Pretty much a single car garage with 2870 height. It can fit a car lengthwise fine but width I wouldn't want to exceed 2600 by too much.

10 feet = 3.04800 metres plus that pesky 1/4 inch...so can't slide one in sideways

Whats beyond the rear wall of the shed?? can you extend a tad?

sweet!! this might be my ticket.

Second problem is what to do with garage door mechanism which hangs quite low preventing a mini being lifted high enough off the ground...

Thanks for all the replies though guys, this has given me a renewed interest in pursuing this line of thought 8)

Any chance you can put up a pic of your driveway / garage? Answer might be obvious to fresh eyes.

What sort of garage door ?

Roller, Panel or Tilt ?

Panel:
Looking at the Garage Journal earlier today and saw some pictures (but can't find again) of "High Lift" option for Panel Doors ... basically run near vertical til near roof and then horizontal...
(but just found similar and more detailed...
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8824
)

Roller:
Mount higher ? Longer tracks ?

Tilt:
Game over...
