Probably hard to read any numbers on it..........

I was hoping someone else had one on their bench to view any embossed or cast numbers, otherwise I can try to read them over the weekend. The units are not very accessible.

In the meantime, have a browse through this thread which quotes some part numbers, history of changes and mentions the two grooves for the Cooper S version as raised by John.

I crawled under my MK II Cooper S's to take these. Can't see any obvious rings (except around the flange under the big nut) but maybe someone else can.

Please don't let that stop you, John. You have much more knowledge on such topics than most of us put together. In any case I think you do very well with the volume and quality of your posts on Ausmini (especially as you're meant to be concentrating on packing up for the move right now, aren't you !?).

Ha Ha !! :D

Actually I'm about 5 kms away, but that's not the reason for so much rust on the blue car. It sat under a house in Brisbane for close to 20 years until I acquired it a year or so ago. I'm yet to start the restoration.

My GT is fitted with the two rings 3231233C

I have another here the same, which if original, came off my 64 English Cooper.

I also have one with only one groove, and it also has the same number

Ok got mine on the bench.

1st one is a 3231233C off a 1970 MKII S.
It's spring has much thicker coils and is noticeably harder to compress.
No rings on it though, the top edge is raised where other one is not.

2nd unit is : 93773C and its spring appears longer with thinner coils and easier to compress than the other

Just trying to determine which one I should be using, correct to the car and to do it job correctly.

Mini's Have been around for such a long time, and although we may have a genuine
Mk1 Or Mk2 Cooper S, That does not Mean That nothing has ever been changed on our cars,
so it is possible that some parts do not line up with what people Like Me say was originaly fitted,
that is not to say these parts are no good, I dare say that over the Years
People have purchased exchange reco valves, or even new valves that did not have the markings that I have mentioned,
I would also like to mention, the number cast into a lot of units is not the part number
that unit is sold as, For example, a Mk2 Cooper S head can have the number 12G940
cast in the head, The very same number can be found on some 1100S heads
and this is true for a lot of other Items some some time the number cast in a unit
does not tell The whole story

Totally understood John.
Do you think the spring looks correct ?
That seems to be the important part in all of it.
When the car was last going in 1998, the rear brakes used to lock, particularly in the wet, so I'm just trying to match all the correct parts to stop this.

Over the years as things have been changed I think it ended up with the wrong rear wheel cylinders, and the internals of the limiting valve had also become clogged up and corroded.

I guess in my thinking , If I can work out the correct spring, then that is one more thing put back how it was designed.

Really appreciate every bodies input. Thanks.

ok, we are getting somehwere,,, not sure where to be honest but somewhere :-)

here`s a list of cyls that we are sure is not "all" of the ones that they came with,,, both dad & i are sure there is a small & a big & i`m not sure that the large one i posted the pic of is mini or not at this stage but we`re still collecting valves to take pics of tgo ascertain whats what

4313-743
4313-745
4313-746
4313-755

all of these were meant to take the SSB802 kit (now NLA)
& they were all effectively thew same valve with different springs...--> sedans,,, "S"` ,,, mokes,,, & Vans all showing different spring rates.

but!!! dad suggests that`s not the whole story & believes (the same as i do) that there was a small "S" valve in the bunch & it took a different kit,,, with different (smaller) plunger & seals inside it,,, maybe with the SSB803 kit (Maybe)

we`re still doin homework on it all so don`t smash me yet ok?

i`m still sourcing valves to take pics of & rip apart to check their guts`s :-)
