That they will call me back and never do and that they have reposted items... but have given them a fair amount of rope... but now i'm getting really frustrated with lies and promises that amount to nothing

Sounds serious....Postal issue is BS and the table of excuses is a common ploy to fob people off....I'd start making cancel/refund noises etc.

but maybe no more detailed discussion in an open forum huh?

Just ring your credit card company and get the transaction reversed.

I've had good service from classic cars and excellent service from minisplus (Lindsay siebler). Also bought a heap of stuff (thousands of $) from Minisport too and only had one little mistake, I ordered a part and they sent the wrong one. Although it was probably my mistake ordering online, they were very helpful when I rang and sorted it out.

If you want to buy a part bought from mini-spares UK and resold to you for 3x the price, when you could have got it direct from the UK yourself and saved a packet.

But each to their own

I'd hate to post and perpetuate the opinion that there is often far quicker service, cheaper prices, and sometimes even cheaper postage, by buying direct from the UK?

However, it's all true! So often I've wanted to support the local business, however the price disparity is so great that I'd be an absolute mug to do so.

I buy local everything I can, somethings just don't exist however.
The MPI alternator I couldn't source here - arrived from the UK in 6 days from order.
Thats unbelievable speed.

With the Aussie dollar at an all time high against the pound, why would you risk getting jerked around and ripped off by locals some of whose standards of service are beyond a joke.

And if you think suppliers of Mini parts take you for a ride, try ordering Land Rover stuff....massive mark ups and frequent mess ups...

That's not to say all local car parts suppliers are bad news of course, but some just don't seem to get it that we're now in global economy and the consumer can purchase from anywhere in the world often easier and cheaper than he can from the shop in his neighbouring suburb.

BTW Doc I too waited for many years for a response from that Melbourne supplier about buying a new Y piece ... in the end I gave up trying and got one made by an exhaust specialist.

I like ebay :-) , but in reality it depends on your budget if you can afford the local stuff try minisplus and karcraft which from reading the forums have quite reasonable prices.

Me im on a budget so i look for 2nd hand bits on ebay and the for sale section here. My first big purchase $400+" well big for my budget " was from huddersfield spares in the Uk.

As for the horror stories on purchases you will get that pretty much anywhere you buy things , sh!t happens. As for the price difference between here and the uk its a complcated thing , we have a small population in oz so a lot less people purchasing parts where as the uk 10x our population will obivously get more sales which means smaller margins to keep the doors open.
What annoys me the most is the postage costs in australia and the bloody speed of it , ive ordered things in oz which have taken 2-3 weeks to get here and ive ordered things from uk longest one took 10 days lol and that has to go through customs lol.

Anyway what was the question :-)

Cheers Bill

EDIT: Forgot to mention members here sell parts and do machining etc , GR ,Drminii machining+parts , Convertible mini " eletrical " and many more etc so shoot them a pm for something specific or just ask on the forums in the wanted section

Ok this post is turning into war and peace :-)

I wanted a new set of bumper corner bars, I ended up buying them from Minispares in the UK for half the price (delivered) that local suppliers were asking.

These guys need to realise that it is a now global market and their competition is half a world away.

Supporting the local guy is fine, but at twice the price?? Not me (and many others I know).

In saying that I have had good service and advice from Lindsay Siebler in Melbourne. Pity some of our local guys don't want to be competitive.

Brian
