Australian built, the blocks etc were imported from UK but machined and assembled here.
However if you bought a NEW block or short motor here (I bought 2), there was NO engine number on it. Unless it was an imported motor, eg Cooper S.

I know in my 1100/1100S workshop manual it has : "Y Australian Manufacture" on the page decoding the engine numbers.

I've always held the belief that 'Y' in the engine number is Oz manufacture (excluding cooper types, which are a law unto their own).

You are correct, Jacob, although perhaps a better term is Australian assembled rather than Australian manufactured. It's mentioned in various publications, including the Morris 1100 Workshop Manual you quoted.
