If you use it, the cooling system has to be completely devoid of water. Or words to that effect on the label.

Here's what Jay Leno (a true car guy) has to say about the stuff:

Just watched the Jay Leno link. They quoted that it can tolerate 3% water left in the system. So the heater would need a good drain.

I have never had problems with well maintained water/coolant cooling systems and I don't really know why you would want to re-invent the wheel with a 40 plus year old cast iron motor. As the saying goes "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

One of my old motorbikes needed to run on glycol free coolant as it ate at the ceramic seals.

there is also a class of non glycol coolants that used to be specified for racetrack applications..... spillages etc didn't create a slippery part of the track, such as Penrite 10 10th Race Coolant http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=7&id_products=482 .. this doesn't seem to be required or enforced any more...? don't know of their effectiveness/efficiency

Old neighbour stuffed their welsh plugs in a commodore they used to fill it with coolant they put in coaches. He was a bus driver.

I'm not very good at catching my coolant, and its too expensive to let dribble down the driveway!

Yes you can use it but I never mix coolants. If you don't know what is in your mini / how long its been in there flush the entire system and fill with the left over coolant from your crummydore.
