That is the early 15AC, uses a regulator mounted on the RH inner guard.
* Note it has an F terminal... the LH small lug.

Yes that is the Alternator used on the last of the round nose Minis. It requires a 4TR or 8TR regulator to work. Unless you have a car that takes that Alternator and you want to keep it original I would throw it away or give it to someone that wants it. The regulator for it will cost you a small fortune and you will still have a 28 amp Alternator. Not very efficient. And be careful how you wire it up as they have a negative terminal on the Rectifier. Which could be why your wires were getting Hot.

I have the regulator, but I have joined and soldered all my wires in my loom.
I don't think I'll be putting it back.
