Hi Alec " 1275LS " , here's a couple of photo's of the way i think they fit , just imagine these photo's upside down as these are the front ones.So i think the order is from top of the tower down to the upper arm . ......Plate with thread >coil >Adjustable trumpet replacement>Knuckle>Nylon Cup >Upper arm.

Trumpets off you can see how squashed the old donut was , coil spring seems a lot narrower though.

Hi bill, just a guess here but id imagine the threaded plate is to allow you to fit the spring into the tower, compress it with a donut compression tool, then slide the hilo in and slot the knuckle joint into the end of it without having to take the top arm out. Then you can undo the compression tool and it all sits together nicely. I struggled to fit mine all together because the space is so tight with the spring at full extension. It would also help to line up the coil spring in the tower. Does this make sense or have I got it completely wrong? :P

Looking at the pics on minispares I think what I wrote above could be correct. The order from bottom to top should be - top arm, knucke joint, hilo, plate with threaded hole, coil spring, coil spring sits straight in tower with no adapter or plate (mine don't have a plate at the top, spring fits straight into tower and is smaller in diameter than donuts) hope this helps

Ya there needs to be a method to compress the spring, and these really don't have the room/length to use a traditional spring compressor. So it makes sense to me that the threaded plate would be at the bottom of the spring. If you can fit them without compressing, then they're gonna fall out at full extension on a rough road.

Did this set not come with full instructions??

Edit : The Hi lo adjuster section fits into the threaded plate perfectly , instead of a little loose on the spring end so your definately right Chux. And the only way the cone compression tool would work , so well done.

Looks good Bill, wind your hilos all the way in to fit them, then uncompress the springs. After that you can wind the hilos back out until you have just a little bit of tension on them. Drop the car down and see how it sits, keep in mind it will drop a little bit further over the next week or so too.

Thanks for the help , will hopefully get them in this weekend if my back holds up and my brothers hungry for a free meal :-)

You could be onto something here as the link in my earlier post for installation " although for a hydro setup " had the plates on opposite ends and he does mention he had to put oversized bump stops to stop the springs falling out when the front wheel is jacked up.

Hey Bil,

That is exactly what I was trying to describe in my last post. I.e. The male side in the spring and the female slots into the Hilo. Therefore the spring just sits in the subframe tower.. Guess I need to work on my communication skills. ;)

Although mine is a different kit, that is exactly how I have it set up on the front..

Steve i dont think it was your communication skill's i think it was my comprehension skills lol , plus i should wear my glasses rather than scroll enlaging these pages :-)

Will be interesting to see how it all fits up as my whole suspension has be cleaned painted and renewed rubbers , ball joints etc is just about ready to install ...... so im getting a bit excited to get it done now.

Maybe, but in my case my springs didn't come with any spacers other than the small tapered ones which help to seat the front springs nicely on the hilo's. The rears just had a rubber ring which goes between the subframe and the spring.

When i used the recommended method - lengthen the hilo's until there is a little bit of tension on the whole assembly... it sat like this -

so in my case, you have to have the springs really loose when it's jacked up, just so that it will sit at a normal height when it is lowered back down. I've ordered some protech adjustable lowered shocks, hopefully they will help to reduce the travel a bit and stop the trailing arms from getting full extension over pot holes etc and going BANG when they load back up :P

They arrived today, 1 of them doesn't seem to be adjusting but hopefully it's just an air bubble or something because i really don't want to send them back to England!!

Hi Bill.

My cone compressor has a UNF thread, but I'd suspect the new stuff would be metric.

To save mangled threads, give the disc a trial fit on to the tool beforehand mate.

Hi Mezz, got them from a guy in QLD, doesn't have a website or anything like that just gets his friend in Japan to send them over as needed.
