If you were doing a dual battery conversion, you could fit the second battery in that dead space behind the existing battery and under the upper floor.

I got tired of not being able to put the seat all the way back. So I made a hatch through the upper floor and fitted a universal battery tray from Bursons to the floor pan. Then I dropped in a Slimline battery DIN-53L, as used in lots of european cars and commonly available at your auto parts store of choice. The negative cable was long enough to reach the new location, but I had to extend the positive lead. The whole exercise took me three hours and cost about $120. Now I can put the seat all the way back. :)

Not a silly idea at all. How abouy putting the batteries on a slide out tray for checking.

my input on what i would do to my van if i had the money.

I want to make some sort of seat mechanism that makes the seat
flip up toward the dash, and bring up some sort of flat piece of something to extend the load area, hence having more sleeping room. then turn it into a 70's shagonwagon.

OR

go more ocnservative and put wood all around the inside load and make it more classic load wagon. i dunno yet, it will be spensive i think so will have to wait till after uni

So does a normal size battery fit under the rear tray?? I was going to mount the batteries under there somewhere, and maby on a slide tray of a sort as well to make it easier to get in and out, should be easy enough if the batteries fit hieght wise under the tray? And eventually there is going to be an elaborate system in the back of my van so thats why i am going for the dual battery setup straight up

Do a SAAB and put the ignition switch and a big red push starter between the seats. Mine is a clubby so I have to have the switch on the column.

A normal size battery just about fits under there, but there is very little clearance for the terminals on top. Certainly there would not be room for a slide out tray under it as well.

With a slimline battery you should have the clearance for the slide-out tray.
