grab a tape measure and go wander around at the wreckers - no matter what seats you get there will be some manufacturing of brackets or bits and pieces. Nothing other than Harleys list of seats will "drop straight in"

While this was already my plan, I realised I'm not sure what you measure. Do you just go widest part of the seat and height, and make sure the seat is no wider then half the interior space? Just work on the assumption you can fabricate up a bracket to make the rest work? Or is there seat rail / frame size limits I should consider, too?

Anyone heard of or tried fitting 90's Subaru Liberty seats?

nup, but assuming these are the seats you're going to look at on the weekend, when you get there, take the seats out of the mini and put the subaru seats in there - best way to tell if they're going to fit or not is to actually put them in

should be just the wingnuts - thats the reason they used them from the factory, so it takes all of 20 seconds to take the front seats out

WHAT! modified seating mounts......defective vehicle! You better rush out and buy some cheesey die cast wing nuts....just like the originals.

Actually the original ones would be hard to find, most fell off and ended up in the Hoover, or fell out through rust hole in floor.

Count yourself lucky - on my first mini someone welded the bottom bracket dealie (technical term) to the floor. It was awesome when I went to redo the body work and discovered that I couldn't get my seats out.

Off topic i know , ( sorry Howey ) but i remember the first time i ever drove to Sydney in my MK 1 ,
a mate and myself went to Liverpool Speedway , we had nothing to sit on , so back to the car , off
with the 4 wingnuts , out with the bolts and carried the front seats up the hill and sat there for the night watching the racing , got some looks thats for sure , 8) .

I have a mate that has MX5 ( i think , will check ) seats in one of his roundies , they look good and are very comfy .

As said above, mx5 seats are comfy but they are not from a car with back seats so the rails aren't designed to let them go all the way forward so you can access the back.

If that isn't a problem and you want to try ALL series of Mx5 seats and rx8 seats go to Automotive Plus in Zillmere rd Aspley. They have stock under cover on the shelf.

Current coin is shrapnel, hence fleabay and gumtree shopping. I'm open to offers and donations though.

I don't have the know-how or tools needed to mod the seats to fit either, so I'm probably looking for something that someone has already modded to bolt straight in, or for someone to offer their services.

Good luck with that :)

Oh this is an old thread... I now have seats that I'm happy with, but saw these and thought I'd ask the question.
