yep! thats the correct spelling!

well i have been thinking about it, and i could probably do it myself but i really dont have the right tools for the job and i dont want to risk my car or me getting hurt :)

so i have called a few places and it looks like i might take it to Zap Motors in North Melbourne (might be one you could add to the list?) im waiting for a call back for a price, but he said it will cost around $200 to fit it. so that sounds good to me! haha

I just took a 71 Clubman over the pits here in WA for rego and failed because of "Excessive Steering Rack Play". I had a fully reconditioned rack put in during the rebuild so I was a bit confused as to where the play was coming from. Turns out it was worn splines on the end of the steering column where it enters the rack. Apparently the splines are made of a softer material than the rack and so wear out over time. I checked over a couple of spare columns at home, grabbed the best one, took it to the pits and put it in, all good.

Obviously your steering rack needs work anyway, but just another easy thing to check if you find there is still play there.

Cheers,
Keels.

Picked up my mini today and it had the following done
New ball joints all 4
New brakes complete with master cylinder inc new slave cylinders in each wheel
New engine mounts
New dampener rod
New track rods
And general safety check
$1100

This may seem steep but it has saved me a sh@t tin of work and I have got the safety stuff ie brakes steering and suspension done by an expert.
I can do the speedo cable and other small stuff. On the way back I from the garage it overheated and spewed its water on the engine bay. I think a new cap and radiator flush over Xmas
Hope this helps mate

Nice one
Better to be safe than sorry I reckon. And I would rather be driving the min rather than working on it

If they tell you it's nutted and will cost $2.5m to o/haul, try this.

And before I get burned at the stake, yes I know they're the cheap ones but most people wouldn't do enought k's to wear one out. (I've got 71,000 k's on mine.....purrrfect)
