If it has a continuous history then there is no doubt as to what it is.

But if there are gaps in the history it starts to get very murky.

ok Ill take those bits out of the AD im just not sure how people will perceive a non matching numbers cooper S??
Yes it has a compliance plate with shows its a MK1 S with off course a different engine number (my engine number is not matching)
I bought the car as an S and I have always known it as an S, I paid around 14k for it almost 10 years ago.
plus I spent about 7k on the engine.
What should I realistically ask for it? thats the question.
I dont want ridiculous money for it , just fair market value.
PS I am a property valuer so I know cost doesnt equal value and that is its worth what someone is prepared to pay in the open market being fully informed about what other cars are out there.
I cant believe how much it costs to get a full body respray on a mini shell, $5000, last time i enquired for a deluxe,
a 1275 rebuild with everything new and balanced etc. $5-7000 all day long now

thanks for all of your honest replies
I appreciate any opinions on value
Mike.

I have spent a few years watching minis come and go on trade me NZ. i have a fairly good idea of what local prices are and i do this so i dont over budget my investment into my cars. i see a lot of std minis selling for reasonable and expected prices ( lots of cars =lots of prospective buyers) when you look at coopers, replica cooper or modified or restored minis it seems the prices are over valued because of the costs involved to get them to this condition. these higher prices cars are in a much smaller customer base, ie maybe 10 people in the country who want top end minis and are prepared to pay the price. most wont sell for asking price and go back into sheds. rare car ===> rare customer = limited market = long wait to find right customer at right price which means sellers have to hold out to get their asking price.
facts are facts and the only way to determine would be a history list of car descriptions and prices paid at a completed sale as the selling price (speculation) is mostly higher than the sold price. the sold prices are the facts
are people prepared to list their car and price info to start a data base...
