Having a look at it this arvo the top and bottom dash rails have black smooth vinyl on them so I'd assume the interior was black. I also noticed some spots of yellow on the inner firewall, it looks to be under the contact glue for the interior.
(A) Is there ment to be contact glue under the flooring?
(B) Would that yellow be a sort of primer from factory? or is there anyway the yellow could be factory related? did the paint bits of the car that wouldn't be seen any colour the had in the gun at the time?
I think they glued the carpet that was up under the dash with yellow contact. And eg up under the parcel shelf in the boot if you look you may see remnants of yellow glue and under felt from the sound deadening (also only fitted to Cooper S)
From original parts of my car that I have rubbed back the primer appears to be grey. But Clay Beige is a creamy yellow. Can you see any of the original colour?
The Cooper S model got black vinyl on the both top and bottom dash rail regardless of the interior colour.
Here's something interesting though. I have seen an old news article that shows The Governor General Lord Casey and Lady Casey taking delivery of a new Cooper S at Yaralumla in Canberra in 1968 from the manager of Larke Hoskins.
They chose green trim.... and .....guess what paint colour they picked.
