My remote linkage has a bolt in the side fitted with a bronze bush (assuming its bronze) with a spring behind it. Is this the bottom nylon bush referred to previously? It puts compression on the rod holding it firmly against the remote tube.

If so it's a mean little spring, hopefully the new springs are as stiff as the old ones :)

No The bottom Nylon bush referred to is the nylon bush at the bottom of the gear lever
and there is a spring that is fitted underneath that nylon bush
