Didn't BMW make it as small as they could while adhering to some kind of safety standard? Which doesn't make sense given there are smaller cars available

Every now and then I find myself looking at my van feeling sad and depressed. The stone chips, broken flares, bent up sump plate, sagging doors etc all caused by the crap local roads I have to drive on. I still love my van. It's coming up to our 20yr anniversary and still feel as if I'd never get rid of it but at the moment I feel no desire to drive it.
Now the P76 on the other hand is a different story. The big V8 soaks up the long rough country roads like it was design to do. I can drive that all day.
Maybe I should shift to somewhere with more mini friendly roads....
