You can polish these to a bright finish, the problem with polished aluminium is that it oxidises very quickly so you have to maintain the finish. that is why they were anodised in the first place,
Chrome plating them is an option but not all electroplaters will chrome plate aluminium

and I think you will find that the original kick plates were silver anodised.

Looks interesting but I wonder how durable it is?

Too bad it's Metal. I know a great paint for plastics. It's a two stage things where you paint the colour then the lacquer and just wipe it down...

Yep, they are only suitable for sliding window doors with the deeper pockets. Being and English part, they are made to suit English cars. The English mk1 and mk2 cars didn't receive wind up windows like we did in Australia because the cooler weather meant they didn't need the extra airflow.

I used some glasurit chrome paint for my wheels. Image
It comes in a little 500ml tin. .
It is a very transparent silvery paint, and needs to be put over a grey Basecoat.
Its used to get the shadow chrome finish on modern factory painted wheels.
On my wheels I used a white basecoat as I wanted them to be as bright as posible.
The only downside is that it is Fairly expensive. The upside is that you dont need to use much . 500ml will do a lot of jobs.

I got it thru our paint supplier while I was still spraypainting.
You should be able to get it from any paint supplier that sells glasurit paint.
I cant remember what exactly it is called. But if you say you are looking for shadow chrome paint they should be able to figure it out.
If I remember what its called, ill post it up.

Oh just to give you more info if you go looking . It is a basecoat, so it requires a clearcoat over the top.

And just to reinforce the point I made earlier. It is Very expensive. ... from memory, the 500ml can costs over $200. ... ... but I probably only used 1/3 of a can, maybe even less on my wheels.

Hope this helps
