What about the no body number stampings on the radiaor or bulk head, should it have had an ID plate as apposed to a Vin plate. In NSW you would not be able to register this car without a body number. If you had a body number you could get a new ID plate made to conform with the body number from Minisport, this would be acceptible in NSW.

sw you would not be able to register this car without a body number

Yes, the brake lines at the back point to it being a dry subframe.

So what is it

Is it a 1967 Morris Mini Cooper I s or a 69 Mk11 Cooper S

This mini has been for sale so many times for a few years now same with the blue one

This must say something about how genuine it is other wise it would have been sold when they first posted the ad up about 2-3 years ago i would skip this one and save your dollars for another s

This mini has never looked right to me over the years its been up for sale

I could be wrong but that radiator doesnt look right

If you look carefully there is no steel hydro pipes at all under the boot and main floor I wonder if it has a full dry conversion with the hoses cut off the bags and attached to the bulkhead to look like a hydro car or maybe the pipes are run inside

they're not hydro floors, look at the keeper tab on the photo of the underside

I reckon it's an 1100s block too. The bosses for the welsh plugs have a big gap from the edge to the welsh plug hole

A 69 Mk2 Cooper S won't have an ID plate or a compliance plate. They didn't come with them and they don't legally need them. They stopped fitting ID plates around June/July 69 and started fitting Compliance plates in late December 69. So for five or six months no plates were fitted.

If you make an ID plate and fit it you could be liable for fraud if the car is found not to be genuine.

The car should have two numbers on it. It should have the car number on the radiator shroud panel. It should have a body number in the rain gutter at the back of the bonnet opening.
It should not have any numbers on the firewall near the master cylinders.

The numbers will tell what it is. (or what it isn't)

If the car has no numbers on the shell new numbers can be issued by the RMS/Police. These will be Police numbers.

Yep the floor is the earlier type.

This is what it should have (note, hydro pipe covers removed and no hydro pipes in place)...

This is what it has...

Notice the plastic hose for the fuel pump breather in the first photo.

That pic could even be from under the blue one

I cant see a centre pipe on the red one in the rear pic number 3 i think

Just leave this one alone looks more dodgey every time someone clicks the link

I suspect you are right. The blue one is parked on the right side of the garage and the underside image is from a car in that location. Probably a stuff up in the listing rather than a deliberate ploy to mislead. However if the sellers have too much emotional involvement with their dearly departed fathers cars to be realistic about price, those two cars will likely be fixtures in their garage for quite some time yet?

I reckon you are right, look at the tread pattern on the tyre in that underside pic... matches the tread on the blue car in the other pic, unless they swapped wheels for the pic! ;-)

Read Vol 14 of "The Mini Experience" There is a very good article on how to identify '69 Mk II's

Thanks to everyone for your comments, this has pretty much confirmed my thoughts that it is not a genuine Cooper S. I really want the genuine item so am now looking elsewhere. Kath
