Bought home from hospital when I was born in a mini (not that I remember LOL)

Lived in the UK from 77 - 79, they were everywhere in Hartlepool. bought one as my second car in 1989 ('63 850, in Nurburg White), ripped a u-turn at 60 and have been addicted ever since. :)

It was in the year of our Lord, 1964.
I was riding old BSAs (Bantams, haha) and thought of getting a Minor 1000, as I liked them.
Then, my mate took me for a run in his hotted up 850, after 1 drive, I was hooked.
So I bought the local BMC mechanic's `61 850, it had twin SUs and went pretty well. That started the obsession. :)

I always wanted one because my grandmother loved her Cooper S, and was quite annoyed when my grandfather sold it to buy an EH Holden.

Came very close to buying one as a second car when I was 18 but bought an MR2 instead. 10 years later finally got a Mini and have proceeded to modify it to with about the maturity level of an 18 year old.

Dad had minis when I was younger everything from windowless vans to mokes and a cooper S.
He sold his last mini a deluxe when i was about 10.
The first car I drove was dad's deluxe at age 8 And I wanted one as my first car from then on.
Dad has now regretted selling his deluxe ever since.
When I was 15 I bought my first mini which is the red leyland I still have.
I'm now 19 and have a van and a mini van trailer.
I got the bug young and I'm hooked.

Cheers, Rhys

I used to work on Minis when I was an apprentice and Minis were brand new.I bought an 850 (1960 model) with a broken crankshaft from one of our customers for next to nothing, and fixed it . Didnt cost much for bits, and from then on have owned 6 Minis over the years. Fun car and no electronics, so easy to repair/tinker with :)!

My dad had a pukey green mini that all the grandkids called the froggy car.
The poor car had a death wish and I spent most holidays fixing the darn thing.
I decided to rebuild my own mini and 25yrs later.......

You bought an MR2 :!:  myself (and probably your Grandmother too) are disappointed :(

(PS never is a shaking of the head smiley when you need one...)

Hey, for an 18 year old it was the right choice, I still own it and nothing's gone wrong with it in 15 years!

The Mini would have bankrupted me back then. And I would have arrived late for work or uni far too often.

Yeah, I suppose it would last 15 years hidden up the backyard under a tarp so nobody knew you bought an MR2  and the money you would have saved getting trains is an added bonus...

Seeing Manton come through the S bends at Mallala Raceway in front of Beechey's 350 Monaro, Mc Kewon's 911 Porsche and everything else!

Peer group pressure also played its part. Everyone at my school was Mini mad in the late '60s... I just had to have one...and have had one (or two) ever since.

My Dad's first car was a white Mini deluxe and in 1995 after owning a succession of average jap shoeboxes as the 2nd family car (and the one that dad mainly drove to work) he bought a 76 Am Eye Blue Clubman S. Was not the best looker at the time but over the next 4 years we gradually brought it up to scratch. That car got me very interested in Minis and I started saving - I wasn't looking for a certain model, just a half decent car that would fit in my budget - bought my 850 in 1998 for $475 and have owned it ever since. We sold the blue clubby in 1999 to part finance an overseas holiday and Dad decided to replace it with a sky blue '62 850 which again underwent gradual improvement over the next 5 years. My younger brother got the bug and bought a 67 deluxe in 2007 which we did a full respray on - so my Dad, brother and I have all owned white, round nosed minis as our first cars...
