Mine is fairly small and was custom made by the guy I got it from . It weighs about 350-400kg from memory and is rated to hold 1200kg.
It is single axle and has mechanical brakes.
I would like to make a few mods to it . The doors hitting on the wheel arches is a bit of a problem. Plus the tiedown points arent ideal.
But it has a flat checkerplate floor and the sides go up about 10cm or so. So it has been really handy for picking up soil/mulch and doing dump runs.

Well 10" wheels and using a soft rubber reinforced with steel mesh wheel arch.

the guy was using it for a lotus 7 replicant and it simply drove on the trailer tyres.

I've been through all of this as well. I started with a very light 3mx1.5 that I sold to someone on here. Brilliant trailer, towed well and you hardly knew it was behind you. Was bare bones and weighed less than 300kg on single axle. Downside, nowhere to store anything. You cannot possibly make a trailer that will tow a mini and stay under 750kg, but I would love to be corrected if thats possible.

I think this is Greg's old trailer, I kept a photo as it looked light weight which is great!

If your planning to keep the gross weight under 750 kilograms then couldn't you use 10" rims as they are load rated for a full mini, which would be just over 750?

Dad uses a 6'x8' tandem axel. Not the easiest to load but came in under 750kgs with a k on it (minus power unit)

You'd be surprised what a trailer doesn't weigh. Although that goal weight does limit what you can carry legally.

I had an alloy one made by a mate of mine, weighs 180kgs & all new axle, springs, tow hitch, jockey wheel assy etc etc etc

it`s one of the best things i ever did

the Kombi doesn`t even know it`s there :-)

Unless you need an GTM over 2000kg I would stay clear of a tandem axle set up. More weight and harder to handle (maybe they tow better). Up to 2000kg GTM can be achieved with the right combination of tyres, wheels, axles and springs plus say 200kg of ball weight to give a 2200kg ATM.
Without brakes a GTM of 750 is allowed plus ball wieght of say 75kg to give an ATM of 825kg so you would need a Tare weight of between 95 to 185kg to stay legal depending on the model. Not easy

Good question. I've also been keeping an eye out for the smallest and lightest trailer that will carry a Mini as I will use it infrequently. Alternatively, is there an A-frame style hitch that will safely tow a Mini on its rear wheels?

Looking around I saw this which looks interesting http://www.tiltatrailer.com.au/trailers/trailer-models/single-axle-trailer/ not sure I would go the option of towing on an A frame though? I think if I was going to get a trailer I may as well get one I can put a shell on if I have to.

What is the purchase price of this one? I'm not ready to buy just yet so thought someone else may have enquired.

The green trailer behind the falcon wagon in one of the photos I think is the MrSnot trailer.
He had a build thread on a lotus7 replica site and the trailer was really well engineered (as was his Lotus7 rep race car) and quite well known in clubman racing circles.
I was thinking of getting something similar built before I ended up buying my tilt trailer.

Just a heads up
Looking at one of these trailers- quoted about $4300 incl. rego and delivery to Sydney.
Not a bad price but I'm open to alternatives too :0)

Since I don't have my mini at home, can anyone tell me what the ground clearance to the door is when they are open? I have been looking at trailers and I need to know how high the clearance needs to be for the doors to miss the guards.

cheers,

CJ

Hi CJ,

I made some enquires a while back about the single axle tilta trailer and from the measurements they provided, you may have issues with door clearances over the wheel arches especially if the mini is lowered. It may be possible to modify the arrangement in some fashion to overcome this issue but just be careful not to stuff up the tilting action. Other than that I would select the tilta trailer as the most suitable trailer type for a mini, they are very light, the approach angle is good and there is no fouling on the underbody at the pinch point, no ramps and the wheel straps are fast and easy. They also tow very well, and are well finished with good optional accessories available.

Cheers

Chris

Biggest downside I am finding to the tilta so far is that I am in in Adelaide and for the price to get one down here I can get an optioned full sized trailer built for the same price here in Adelaide and still get a fair bit of change  but that doesn't help when you want a light weight small trailer for a mini! That's why I was after the dimensions from the ground to the door so I could talk to a few builders here to see what I could get custom made. I will have to look into the approach angles and pinch point as well which would probably have been a lot easier if I had my mini available to take with me to try on their trailers..............

edit

The guys from tilta sent me a couple of photos of a mini on the single axle trailer for those interested

My old boss had a really nice one for his mx5 race car. It had an airbag setup on it so the tray part could be lowered almost flat between the wheel arches so that you could get really low cars on.
I'd hate to see what it cost him but

There is a 4.00x9 light truck tyre but they're twice the price of a 14"
