Yes, after much haggling I finally bought the car.I followed all of the procedures to prove it to be a genuine mid 1969 MK11 Cooper S.the owner was pretty good about letting us go over the car.The car has very useful paperwork back to the origional owner. The car was an origional Sydney car, then owned by a guy in the Blue Mountains till about 1992,then to Yass to the present owner a very nice guy who did little to the body, but had the motor & g/box completly rebuilt with all the upgrades & reciepts for the work 2000klm ago.The engine is still the origional engine with paperwork indicating that. The rebuild was done by well known race engine builder in the ACT Ian Stewart who owns a very nice MK11 cooper s. Little or no rust but with the usual large dents in the floor pan under your feet but they will come out very easily. It does not have the origional double skinned boot,I am assuming that it has had a hit up the back & it has been replaced along with 1 tail light so I have 1x 2,screw tail light & 1 x 3 screw tail light,so I am looking for a boot & a 2 screw tail light, what other mini had a double skin boot lid?.The body is in pretty good condition with the origional Jet Red paint still able to be seen under the roof lining , under the floor mats & boot. The car comes home on Saturday & tearing down will get underway I will photograph the rebuild over the next 3 years & keep posting the progress on the members gallery. The help from the Ausmini Forum is invaluable & I regard it as the best source of info available.I have a good friend in our area who is going to decide this xmas as to weither he is going to sell his1966 MK1 Cooper S that he bought new in 1966 driven till 1986 then parked in a barn on a rural property & has not moved since. If it comes on the market at xmas I will make sure that Ausmini gets 1st crack at it.Kath.

Congratulations on the purchase. Was it low end or high end of suggested offers that did the deal?
Boot-wise, when you say double skin do you mean as in UK MkII Mini, because an Australian pressed boot lid is the same as on on an Australia MkI S just a matter of making sure it is the Australian size number plate holder and not the early Australian production 850/Cooper that used the long UK style one. It should have a boot lid liner.
Sounds like part of the rear loom must have been modified/changed for the early 3 screw lens/chrome body on one side. They normally have bullet connections versus the 2 screw have spade connections. In the scheme of things an easy fix if a good replacement can be found.

The price was top end but as a few have said they are not making them anymore & in a few years I would regret not buying it.It seems that the boot is the original then,I thought that it had to be doubled skinned. It has the cover with 17 screws holding it to the boot lid.thanks again.Kath.

Kath - what colour are the screws and cup washers? Most people say chrome but I have a colleague who thought some or all of the Australian cars had Florentine bronze colour.

As others have stated the cooper s boot differed that it a thin black leather patterned Masonite type liner with held on by multiple screws.

The other difference is sound deadening. The s got underfelt type deadening lining inside the boot lid, across the boot floor and glues to the underside of the parcel self inside the boot.

Doug I have been told the cup washers were silver and the screws are a Matt black. I have a set of what I believe are nos ones. I'll see if I can get a picture up.
