Thanks Timmy, haha I was way off what I thought it was!!

That diagram makes it look very scary to pull my carbies apart. I might leave it until after Sunday's run incase something doesn't go exactly right. I'm not missing it!

I'll put the spare one in my car for you then. They aren't too tricky once you get into it :)

Thanks a heap Tim

So with a needle change - if I did indeed need to change them.

If I changed to say, a CP6, would that mean I would need to lean out my mixture being a bigger needle? (just trying to get my head around this)

Changed the spark plugs to the BP5ES, first little run seems to run well but still dropping off whilst idling, when it idles it kinda makes a knock every so often just randomly - does it a little more when the idle really drops low -500rpm

It's a number 6, not a CP6.

The diameter at the thick end (ie at idle) is about the same for all these [.090 jet size] needles. So will idle about the same without moving the jet.

Thanks Doc

So would the actual part no. be if I were to buy a 'no. 6?'?

My car is 1330 with mild cam.

I just checked and my I.5s had no 6 needles. I tried a couple of different needles and they seemed the best. You can borrow them to try if you like. I'll try and bring the needles on Sunday.

If you order you just need to ask for a no.6 needle to suit a 1.5in SU carb. There are fixed and floating, yours are more likely to be fixed. Midel could help you out or you could shop around.

Karcraft stocks the no 6 needles, around $13 or so each.

Thank you Phill + Doc,

I'm (ok)ish about giving the change of needle a go - it just makes me nervous once they're changed the effect it will have on my A/F, I've never played with A/F mixes yet and don't yet have any tools for that (considering getting one of those gunson colortune thingy's)

cheers
James

Gunson's Colortune won't help you except at idle.
Find someone down there with an A/F meter or come up for a drive, I have a portable `Innovate MTX' one.
