Is this only for performance use or would you fit one to a daily driver driven by a little old lady (which is what my wife will be by the time I've finished  )

How does it deliver the extra revability and 2-4hp that the minimania site claims :?:

I was figuring that the oil splashed up on the pistons rods and crank increased the mass of the rotating/moving parts which robbed the engine of horses so the windage thingy was aliitle like getting your pistons rods and crank lightened (just a little.... they are still going to have oil on them from the bearings etc I guess) This is just my thoughts.

And I agree it can only help with the oil supply problems :D

The main way to illustrate what a windage tray does ina Mini is to describe it thus -
Go to seaside, take shoes and socks off, roll trousers up as far as they will go or substitute with shorts/swimming trunks. Walk into sea until ankles covered. Wlk back and forth quickly but without lifting feet out of water. Now repeat, exceptt his time have water at knee height.

The deluge errupted from the sump in a Mini has the same effect. Because the gears rotate in such a way to suck the oil up out of the sump and throw it straight up at the crank from between the gears on the mainshaft and the laygear there is a huge amount of oil 'in the air'. Preventing this MUST give the rotating assembly an easier time. Consequently it MUST rev up easier/quicker and MUST loose less bhp purely from the lack of windage friction/drag. The higher the rpm, the more pronounced this would be.

the words of keith claver, its easy have a look at which way the gears are turning in a mini gear box all the time and they are for ever throwing the oil upwards causing it to hang in mid air hitting the crank as it comes around.simple keep it around the gears where its suppose to be.
everything else is lubricated by galleries or you would have no use for an oil pump literally.

At least you can guarantee that a mini's rotating parts are well oiled.......

I have been told that for 1275s with big journal 1100S rods you need to belt it down in a few places to miss the spinning lumps. (good excuse to lighten the rods!!)
Also, forget it for small bore motors- the rod bolts hit it, according to KC.
Maybe would work with some BFH surgery..

Actually KC did say that was with 998A+ rod bolts (have bigger heads).. might be worth trying on a 998 with stocko bolts....
 Maybe could use c/sk Unbrako capscrews... much shorter!

as soon as i get one ill be testin it on stroked motors 1430, small bore motors A and A+ and also S motors and 1275 motors to see how it clears and if anyhting need belting down with a nudge stick.

Replacing the rod bolts next time its out anyway.. its had a few big-revs since those ones went in....

Unbrako's should be a dollar or two cheaper than ARP's too !

Hmmmmmmm

Normal Unbrako capscrew heads are smaller dia than the hex bolts anyway. You can shorten them a bit too.
Vizard shows pics of Unbrakos on smallbore rods..
