From tafe days 13.8 volts is a fully charged battery and 14.1 is engine running fully charging so if it really is 15v and use a proper meter its a reg issue

Most regs go to ~14.3. 15V is a bit too high...

Is the battery bubbling yet? Check the battery for spilled acid and corrosion.

I don't know what some people are talking about. "All Mini Alternators are repairable". I stock repair parts for all models. With the exception of the External regulator fitted to the Australian GT and Mini K as they were an Australian Lucas only item but can be replaced by 4TR or 8TR British Regulator If one does not mind it looking different, when you find one and you are prepared to pay it's price. I also stock brand new 70 Amp Alternators at a great price.

Not just Jap cars-

Example- Lucas alternator specs:
15AC alternator- output 28A @ 14.3-14.7V
16ACR alternator- output 34A @14.0-14.4V.
Taken from Gregorys/Scientific Publications #02 workshop manual. Leyland Black manual agrees.

Hope this helps.

Slow climbing as in, when I start the car up it is where I'd expect it to be (13.5 - 14 range). As I drive, it slowly gets higher and higher - over a long period of time, like 30 minutes. I don't think I've ever seen it over 15, but certainly darn close.

I've never opened an alternator before. Is this a tough job? Is there anything else worth looking at / cleaning / repairing while I've got it out?

Hi Brian,
I rooted my alternator while taking the pulley / fan off.
You can have it lock stock and bent bits because I have another with a different end bracket set up. As far as i know the regulator (diodes etc) is okay.
Come and see the motor in pieces too
