as for the front bar mounts, never seen that before, mine has a full length seam with no notches at all as no overrider as std

Thanks for pointing that out - I've never seen that before either. Looks like a good idea though, stops crap from settling in the seam

Those studs are for mounting the fresh air duct for the heater.

I believe they maybe for the horn in the early days

I could be wrong, I usually am.
I have only seen those studs on a few models and just assumed they were for the duct.

I have seen those studs on late K's and early 850s but nothing in between.

I had a very early 1961 850, the horn was on a bracket attached to the subframe.

I didn't think there was a "seam" but an angle spot welded on to mount the bumper to.

Not a welded seam as such but once it is spot welded on there is effectively a ledge that traps dirt and crap. A welded seam would be better in that atleast there wouldn't be a tiny gap between the bumper bracket and front panel to trap dirt and water

Well may be I should just replace my flimsy brackets with some more substantial ones. Then there is no "seam" to catch rubbish and cause rust. 8)

Where would the horn originally be on a 63 850? Mine has been relocated to near the brake/clutch tin cans

From memory mine was mounted inside the front corner of the subby, I can't remember whether on LH or RH side.
