All of the above, but get a valve tool and loosen the valve and let it dribble into a bucket or container that will fit under.

Well, after all that, I screwed a bicycle tyre pump tube on and not much came out and it certainly didn't spray everywhere. Maybe after three years or so off the road the pressure leaked?? I have undone the front bags so should be able to start taking sub-frames off now.

If it had leaked you would notice it on the concrete where you parked it...and the suspension would be riding on the bump stops...make absolute sure that you have released the pressure (can be as high as 250-300 PSI) before you go much further

There is only a cup full between being pumped and being able to undo the hose.

The whole system holds a heap of fluid but most of it is retained in the bags till it dribbles all over you the first chance it gets.

That sounds like someone quoting from personal experience. :)

 Yep, no matter what you do the displacers will find a way of leaving their mark.

Yes, from normal ride height to no fluid coming out was only about a cup each side. Bit of an anti climax really. Undid the front hoses and only a dribble came out. At least I know how to do it now and what to expect. I took the front sub-frame out today as well. That became another thread on how to get the steering column out but all good. Next time it is taking the rear sub-frame off. Thanks for all the advice.

Make sure you NOTE where any spacers are fitted in the rear sub frame...for replacement to the correct place later

AND don't underestimate the crushing, can damage people weight of that rear sub-frame...(wait for all the Arnie types who will say they do it one-handed!)...just make sure it is well supported before lowering the trolley jack or whatever...

However, Arnie (Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger) says:

What we face may look insurmountable. But I learned something from all those years of training and competing. I learned something from all those sets and reps when I didn't think I could lift another ounce of weight. What I learned is that we are always stronger than we know.

I believe that is how it can be done, someone will answer but I got my engine rebuilder to pull the engine out and then took the car home. Pretty sure a lot of the restos I have seen show the engine going back in already on the sub frame and shell lifted over the top. I am having a go at getting rear sub frame out tomorrow.

Not only possible but a well accepted method of dropping engine with subframe...search Ausmini for lifting body etc
