Spot on 36. 1380cc, dogbox to name just a few. Like I said, just a comparison. Ian is running at the South Australian hillclimb championship in 3 weeks in improved production up to 1600cc. So that will be interesting to see how he and the car goes. Cheers

Just to add on 36's point

Improved production vs Group Nb having a stab here >>>>> please correct errors
1380 ///// 1310 (not alot of difference in hp if any)
Weight close to 500kg ///// 600-615kg
Any you beaut suspension ///// Rear sway bar and good shocks
Fat slick tyres ///// Hoosier 165 semi slicks

so improved production has greater ability to utilise that HP , but basically in that 5 port configuration the same engine,

Looked great and i bet it will go even better in the twistier tracks..... and in a credit to driver and pitcrew, all those you be 'free to play around with bits' can often be absolute pains to get right and make the car a pig to drive, that car footage shows the whole package well sorted well done on those times !!! >)

There is not a big difference between Ian car and a group N car.
Motor 1380 against 1330 a little more torque down low from 6000 onwards very little gain.
Ian's car may get down to 600KG some group N cars are under 590 kg
Same tyres on both cars.
Same suspension on both cars.
As for the dog box I like the std close ratio box as I think the ratio's are to tall in the dog box,(slower acceleration )
Wheels 6ins against 5.5 no gain with the tyres being used.
6 ins wheels and flairs makes the car slightly slower in top speed.
So really there is not much gain.
Well done Ian.

I can help with a few of those details FNQ. In 2012 Ian had quite a nasty crash resulting us having to rebuild the car from scratch. At that time I read the rule book but as it's been awhile I'm a little scratchy now. Improved production still run on control tyres very similar to group n. There for Ian runs the same Hoosier tyre (non slick). You basically can't change anything unless it says so in the book. No rose joints etc. You can remove all the trim up to the bottom of the windows. What I can tell you is the car weighs 601kg (alloy cage) and doesn't run any sway bars front or rear. Engine is a 5 port with only the nuts and bolts that hold it together left unmodified. Everything else has been modified, replaced, machined etc etc. oh the clutch cover is original! Improved production is a great class as you get a chance to compete against modern vehicles. So when you win its a terrific feeling knowing the good old mini which my family and friends all dearly love is still capable of taking class wins/championships. Hope that helps

Is that Group 3J Improved Production which is a current class or the Group Nc that is meant to be in the spirit of the late 60s Improved Production that is a historic class?

The Group 3J rules don't permit the use of adjustable lower control arms, whereas i have seen these used on Nb cars. In Group 3J to get camber, you need to modify the subframe pivot points, not that it makes that much difference with the Hoosiers.

Great results from a 1380 cc 5 port though.
