Alrighty, time for another update.

I cannibalized 3 dizzy's I had to make one that worked how Doc described. Currently 12deg static with 30deg all in at 3500rpm with no vacuum advance. Turns out this has been the issue the whole time. When I timed the old dizzy, I was timing it at max advance and not really paying any attention to static timing. This meant at idle i only had around 2-3deg of advance because the other dizzy had about 28-30deg of total advance. This is what was causing the stumble. Once the static timing was brought up to 12 degrees, the car ran great. Progression is smooth, throttle response if good, barely any stumble at all. I had to switch back to the 45F9's as the 50F9's were now too rich, I might even have to try the 40F9's again. I may also have to swap back to the F16 emulsion tubes now as well, but it seems OK at the moment so I'll wait for a bit until I can give it a real drive.

As for swapping to a 40DCOE, yes, I think that would be a good idea even now I have the 45 running. A 40 with 32mm chokes should flow better than a 45 with 32mm chokes, so it would be an improvement even without going down to 30mm chokes. I'm guessing this engine makes around 50-55hp which seems to put it in the middle of the two chokes. If I had to do it all over again, I would start with a 40, but I had a 45 in the shed so that's what happened.

So, a massive thank you to you all for your help and for guiding me through this black magic. I now have a much better understanding of ignition timing and carburetor tuning, and best of all a car that works!! Yes, there's still some fine tuning to do, but I reckon I can sort it out without too many dramas.

Cheers,
Keels.

I bet you will also find that fuel economy is much better now (economy being a relative term when running a Weber/Dellorto). :)

Haha, yes I can imagine it will a bit. Problem is now it drives so much better, I'll probably blow through more fuel having fun it :)

Cheers,
Keels.

What's your economy like Doc? (8L per 100km)

Sorry, I have no idea.
It's now a Club car (NSW old rules still) and I can't be arsed checking it on the few runs it does. But it uses noticeably less since I put the stealth black box in. The advance curve seems spot on now.
