Yeah for sure.

Part of the reason for posting was to sanity check the plan I had and make sure others thought it made sense. And to see if others knew of a better solution. So what DM etc said suggests the idea is on the right track.

And then the Holden heater tap link you guys suggested provides a good starting point to getting it done.

The body is being dropped on the engine/subframe this weekend so in the weeks after that I'll plumb in all of this stuff. I'll post an update once done to show how it turned out. (Though it'll be a few months before it's registered and properly tested)

Not sure if this will help with this project, but there is a spacer with an outlet available so the on head tap can be retained if fitted.

Works great when using a water heated/cooled manifold or for an aux radiator. If you want to turn of the rad you would need to add an inline tap.

That's a great idea. I was looking at doing something like this for my clubby. Using a 3 or 4 way remote valve will look ugly and have hoses running everywhere.

Ooh Minimanic that looks like a pretty good solution that I didn't think of. It would work perfectly when the heater is off. I wonder would the heater be less effective if the water is constantly also going to the aux rad...since it is going through two parallel circuits...?

I've ordered the heater tap that Morris posted, but I'm tempted to first just run this spacer with the standard heater take off valve above it. Worst case scenario I make some changes in winter if the heater is not as effective.

The only other downside would be that I can't shut off the aux rad (for eg the first 15 mins of running on a cold winter morning). Again, I might use that spacer method anyway and then compare the warmup times in winter with the aux rad connected and then not connected and see if there is an issue.

GTO I agree on the ugly hose thing. I was going to try to route the hoses discretely but the engine bay is only small!

DM I reckon I will do a similar aux radiator setup to what you've done in terms of placement behind the grill.

Alright - we have a plan!

How about using this to plumb the heater outlet into?

I run a big alloy radiator with the heater outlet plumbed into the thermostat housing. No need to run an axilary radiator.

Hey Mini, if I didn't want the extra cooling capacity that would be a great solution. Given the extra horsepower I'm making I do want to give myself a little extra cooling capacity.

I reckon I'll use that on my future warm 998cc though :)
