Minis built before 1969 would not need to comply with ADRs as there were none in existence before VIN plates came out (1969).
That said, a design feature of all Minis is- if you have a head-on shunt, the steering column will bend up and forwards, it won't spear you like most other cars of that vintage.

As a survivor of a ~60MPH shunt into a tree where both the driver (a mate) and the passenger (moi) survived, I can attest that it works. 8)

The pedal box and the dash are a lot different on cars that comply to the ADR 10. The dash shelf above the pedal box has a lot of holes (like swiss cheese!) to allow the dash to collapse. It was only done to later cars (not 850s)

I had a `61 and `64 850, my `70 matic looks the same. :lol: It was the Clubbie that got the swiss cheese parcel tray with the masonite? insert instead of full sheet metal...
Their column mount was different (higher) too.

BTW the Mini `bendy bus column' won't bend so good if you have a steering drop bracket and sit on the floor, like some do. :lol:

Hmmm, i dont think my '68 has any of those on the compliance plate.....

then again, i dont think it has a compliance plate, just an ID Plate !
