This may help some people.

It's an original nos stock tool kit and bag I have with my Mk1 1967 Cooper S

There is also a picture on page 23 of John Parnell's book 'Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S'

The wheel brace is used as the winder. The jack engages in a square opening along the underside below the door. Correct instructions are in the owners handbook.

Great care needs to be taken as the jack point may be weak due to rust or dodgy repairs.

It's also amazing how many people don't realize the jack is designed to be used with the door OPEN.

You are also supposed to tilt it at the start of lift, so that when wound up it is near vertical.

From the handbook.

The only part of the door you need to be careful of damaging is the inside door pocket if you happen to let the door swing closed onto the top of the jack.

I'm surprised people would try to use the jack with the door closed and only doing half a turn at a time with the handle on the top of the jack. Would take forever to get the car up.

I think You may find the jack in the photo above is a later Model UK Made Jack.
The base is a little wider than the early model and If you compare this photo
to the jack in the first photo You will notice the top edges at the end of the base is stepped.
not rounded

Just as a matter of interest.
There was another type of jack supplied with the very first Model Minis and it was a triangle shape
painted orange I think

Also I seam to remember that the taller Mini jack was introduced when Minis with 12 inch rims
were introduced.

One more thing, I imagine most People know that you should not jack your Mini with
anyone sitting in the Car

It might be worth mentioning that you should take a good look at the threads, clean away the old grease and apply new grease and try and feed some oil into the top bearing.

They are a good jack if well maintained, but deadly if they let go.

good to know its not the original. but still a looks good in the boot. usually use a trolley jack anyway.
would get me out of trouble in emergency

Is nothing on Minis easy? :)

Does the fact that I have found this discussion fascinating make me an anorak? :)

I think I have all three different types in the shed including the really early one which I believe is also used on Sprites. Now to work out which one for which car.

Great discussion guys. One reason I love this forum. Sensible positive discussion without a lot of the BS you get at car shows from supposed loud mouth experts!

I was thinking the same. Couldn't have said it better myself.
