Winabbey,
I think your Technical bulletin re alloy wheels/nuts/washers is different from the owner's handbook excerpt which shows a Rostyle steel wheel that used a dome type of wheel nut not needing a countersunk washer.

Yes, that was sort of the reason for posting. I went looking and couldn't find a reference to alloy wheels in the driver's handbook so, either the bulletin writer got confused or the handbook writer didn't put it in. :?

OK, I apologise unreservedly for thinking the Leyland publications department got it wrong.

There is a supplement to the driver's handbook for the Mini SS that includes instructions for the alloy wheel.

To Winabbey: Sorry, I wasn't trying to be smartarse. I just wanted to clarify the details.
To Fishyoil: I meant to say that I would be interested in 1 or 2 sets. BUT there are at least 2 versions of these wheel nuts for Contesta wheels. Later wheel nuts had a small, round extension machined onto the head of the nut. The first set I bought in 1970s were cut off immediately after the hex and didn't stick out quite so far. Personally, I prefer the shorter version.

$100 for stainless steel wheel nuts, I'm in.
I'm presuming its 302/304 stainless, Not 316
I don't like the local ones purchased recently.
PM sent.

Bill I agree, the short ones look better.

At this stage, there seems to be enough interest to fulfill the min quota. I will send off the nut, shorter version if I have one, and the washer. Once Neil receives the sample, he will make detailed drawings to enable them to be manufactured. There will be more than enough to meet demand. I just needed to know that the minimum quota could be meet so that I wasn't wasting anyone's time.

So, just keep an eye out on first post for updates from here down. The latest being the grade of stainless used.

"The stainless steel grade is 303, which is the softer, more machinable grade which is suited to making the nuts out of. There are other grades of stainless steel used for marine applications, such as 316, but these are far too hard, and the use of this material could result in the wheel nuts having no surface grip on the wheel taper, so would not stay tight in use."

Stay tuned and thanks to all who expressed interest. :D

Glad to see its 303. 316 will work harden and snap. Not really good for wheel nuts!

just so anyone wondering why,,, we only used 19mm hex-bar for our nuts because there wasn`t any 11/16ths hex bar around at the time,,, it would have been a special order & more expensive

yep but they sure look the biz and I'll try to do the same Matt. Albeit at greater expense. I'll need a new 19mm socket though.

For the brains trust, any tips I can pass on to the maker? I have been alerted to the fact that the style of nut that I will send only has 1/2 turn before bottoming out. How deep should they tap it?

Plan B is starting to look good...

Minis Plus has stainless nuts in stock, they have been available for about 3 months and have been tested and used on many cars.

They are only $4.50 ea. / $72.00 set of 16.

Don't want to tread on any toes, just noticed this thread today.

Cheers, Ben.

Just a small update regarding size. Both 11/16" and 3/4" hex are available, but for now the size will be the larger 3/4" or 19mm.

Just received an email from Neil saying he has received the sample nut and washer.

He has pointed out that the washers should be made from plated steel and not s/s - " tightening stainless nuts onto a stainless surface is not a good plan as we would want the washers to deform slightly to prevent them coming loose".

Also, are there any issues with a larger hex being torqued down on standard sized washers? Feedback on this would be great and appreciated at this stage.
