These are Australian made, not imported, have the flap and if needed the hole for the fresh air heater can be easily cut in them.

Its made to fit a MK1
So does anyone know where i can buy some similar material so i can cut my own to suit my car

GundyGuy,
I am sorry you are unhappy with your purchase, I am happy to refund you, just let me know
and I Will post you a prepaid envelope and you can send it back, and I will issue you a full refund

For the record, I have sold hundreds of these, and people have fitted them to the Mk1
& Mk2, Cooper S, Mini K, Mini Deluxe etc and this is the first complaint.

There is no flap for the ID Plate cut in the pad on the one i supply for two reasons,
1 I have found that the body plate is not always fitted in the same position,
2 not everyone wants this feature. however this is not a huge problem to overcome,
It requires three cuts with a Stanley knife in the position you require,
I estimate the time it would take would be 3 minutes all up.

GundyGuy,

The Lucas 12AUW round body wiper motor on the MK II Cooper S was also used during the later stages of Mark 1 production so the answer to your question is yes and no.

The insulation we supply is meant to suit most situations but even the factory had subtle changes to this item over time. For example, some had a long slit behind the washer bottle so the bracket could be accessed, a wide slit in the middle to accommodate the speedo cable, a flap in front of the ID plate for those Mark 1’s that had a plate, a flap in front of the paint sticker on some Mark 2’s, etc.

This morning I have checked with several people who have used the mat in both Mark 1 and Mark 2 restorations. They tell me it fits well with a few minor alterations to suit their particular situation, as mentioned above. I will consider altering the design in future supplies so the mat has no wiper motor cut-out at all. It would come with an instruction sheet and cutting templates to suit both square and round bodied wiper motors.

Please confirm the item supplied is undamaged and I will send you a pre-paid envelope for its return. I’ll credit you the full amount for the purchase. I am more than happy to do this for any customer who is unhappy, for whatever reason.

Yep,

Been spending my hard earned quite a bit with John lately - great service, advice and has parts that are hard to find.....

I did have to do slight mods to my new bulkhead felt a while ago but was not much hassle.

I have used this item also and apart from very minor alterations no problems fitting it. (Mk 1 with round body wiper motor)

I think if you were truly determined to make your own you would need to buy the vinyl and backing separately and glue it yourself.

At one stage I was considering doing this because (if you want to be really fussy) the original Australian ones from the period of my car had a finer grain in the vinyl.

As you stated you fitted one to a MK 1. What alterations did you have to make
I have seen a photo of one that the cutout for the wiper motor is lower
The old one i took off my car had the wrong cutout as well and i could not work out why it sat too low on that side and i couldn't pull it up

Hi Philip,

You are correct when you say that the original material was different, yes it was a finer grain and was backed with
different material than anything I have been able to buy these days.

It becomes very difficult to reproduce some items, because the materials used 30 plus years ago is
is not always available now days. In some cases it can be reproduced but the cost v demand has to be considered
