I once fitted a tube into an A008, it lasted 2 weeks. The diagonal ribs inside the tyre chafed a hole in the tube. Bad idea.
This was on a Contessa wheel. Not that this makes a difference.
Since then I have run without tubes. Never had a tyre roll off, even during track days.

In this thread is the BMC Engineering drawing that clearly specifies tubeless tyres for the Cooper S (YDO6) which has LP883 rims. Maybe show a copy of that document to the tyre fitter.

I wonder why they changed from tubed to tubeless. The original brochure says tubes were fitted.

Either a change in tyre type or the tubes were rubbing.

It would be good to get a statement in writing from someone like the Tyre and Rim Association and/or Dunlop endorsing the fitting of tubeless tyres to original factory rims without the need for a tube. Presenting a copy to a tyre fitter might convince them to comply and fit tyres without a tube when asked.

Noting that Tubeless should have a narrower than normal tube fitted...

EDIT/CAVEAT: in the period, it was common to "tube" tubeless tyres to get people going after a puncture, even if a temporary plug was used...not ideal, but it works :|

move to the country.... I've never had an issue with tyre fitters, even their apprentices seem to 'just know' what to do with my wheels

A little bit OT, but try finding someone who can balance a centre lock MG wire wheel these days.

After a couple of bad experiences I gave up and bought my own wheel balancer.

Cheers

Flute, Link Automotive can fit up 10 inch tyres.

As for Group Nb, we run all our tyres tubeless on a variety of new and old rims.

Hoosier aren't street legal anyway. But Yoko A032 run tubeless as well.

Racers tend to check their tyre pressures a lot more regularly than normal road users though.

Thanks guys, solved my issue as to tube/tubeless as well. From what I can gather, the safety rims came about for all cars very late 60's or early 70's to allow for the dick heads not checking their tyres regularly.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news...but people are still abusing their tyres to this day...thankfully, the modern tyre is very forgiving and near bullet proof (well...very reliable) :D

Low profile ones are constantly cracking on the inner side walls. Customers never believe you when you tell them their 6 month old 80% tread tyre is unsafe! Guess its chinese rubber...
