Hi All
I was told today that they have been passed by the FIA for use in historic racing. 8)

Have a look at his Mini projects and write-ups in the UK mini mags ... He is doing current work. The Copyright tag is probably just a set-and-forget effort when he created the website in the first place. Given the whole thing is produced using Adobe Flash, his strength isn't web design so it's not like he's keeping the copyright notice current every year.

You misunderstand. I'm saying that this idea has been around for a few years.

I was wondering if it had actually progressed.

responce from FB message

"Hi Nick,
Thanks for the message. We are working on casting the block. The grade of iron is rare, the water complex and it is a difficult game as quality must be top notch, in line with our ethos, yet costs have to be controlled so that retail price are adequate.
When we have a tested and fully proven product, we will make an announcement.
Cheers"

Hi All
The cooper S blocks have been given to another foundry as the first foundry was not confident they could cast them, the trade price could be around 2200 POUNDS.

Just idly playing the Devils Advocaat  ...could the same mould be used to cast alloy blocks (assuming there was a market for such a weight saving item) :?:

[Caveat: I do realise that there may not be that much weight saving to be had!]

Aluminium is about a third of the weight of steel, so yes, a significant weight saving.
BUT it is a lot weaker so you may need more of it, so now you may need to change the mould.

Ya think?

What if people just wanted a weight saving for better handling but weren't chasing high horses?

Ummmmm...what about this lot :?: (as an example)

the moulds are different because of different shrinkage rates between alloy and cast iron. you may need to cast the liners in place as well adding to complexity of mould and cores.
