I just rebuilt a set and it cost me about $1400 including new pistons, hoses, seals, pads, cv's and cost of brakes. Still cheaper than new ones.

Yeah it will cost me approximately that much too. The deal is, if I get brand new everything, the rotors would be new (being able to be machined several times, the bearings would be new (longer service life), everything would be new! worth the $300 or so on top to buy new I'd say.

That's just the point. It cost you $1400 to rebuild your existing set. How much did you pay for them?
Anything over $500 and suddenly the new ones are a better bet.
