Yep - I haven't worked out when the 4ST lost its push button. We would probably need to look at the one owner cars.

Looking at photos won't help that much as they kept the little cap on the non push button type.

I have 2 of the square 4ST with the usable push button and they both have red buttons. Most people don’t believe me that square type originally had a push button until I demonstrate it.

The Lucas Australia parts book lists the UK made 76766 solenoid as being for the AH Sprite, MG Midget and MGB, so CKD vehicles that were assembled here. These vehicles had very few local parts according to the parts books.

I haven't seen any documentation to support the 76766 solenoid being used on the Australian Mini range.

So was there an Aust version of the same type with a the push button??

I've found two Australian Lucas solenoids this week which have the black top button.
One is dated 10/72 and the other is dated 1/76.
Lucas Australia - the part number and 12v + date all appear on the bracket.

Are you talking about a button that operates? The 62933009 solenoid has a black knob but it's part of the solid plastic enclosure and isn't a button.

On the 72 solenoid it reads 6/72 not 10/72 sorry.
The part number is the same but reads 629330090 so a extra 0

I don't know but I assume not until an actual example with Lucas Australia branding and date appears. Going by the narrative in the SLS gtogreen1969 posted earlier there was a solenoid with push button for a period but perhaps this was UK sourced, maybe BMK1727 as per the parts book I posted previously.
