Fitted a oil/water heat exchanger from a Metro. It's cold and I want warm oil to put my foot down quickly 8)

Can't see the logic :? Buy the time the water is warm so will be the oil

Yes and no. The water in the smal curcuit will be hot much(!) quicker. If you plumb the exchanger into that smal circuit the water will warm the oil and heat it up.

I have warm water after ~2-3km. The oil is not hand warm at that point!

In Australia it's probably not realy sensible - but over here I guess it makes some sense reducing the time the oil needs to warm up in winter. Additionaly the exchanger can lower the peak oil temp. a bit on long runs with high rpm (autobahn chase?). If the water cooling can cope with it (I guess my setup can do). Of course it's not a replacement for a real oil cooler.

well, at least that's the theory. I'll see. Volvo, saab, VW, Honda - they all fit or fitted them to theyr cars for the same reason. So it can't be that wrong? :) Quite a few people over here run them with great succes.

:)

Looked at the car and thought - gee, I should get off my bum and work on it. I then had a beer and, well, nothing.......
