Assembly of motor coming along nicely replacing all the gaskets as I go, even the ones that don't need it. Diff cover had a major leak as did the seals on the output shafts and the gear change, it took me ages to clean down the gearbox. I've mocked up the Triger timing kit to see what I need and I only need some slightly longer cover bolts it seems. Should be fully assembled by tomorrow night, unless that thing called life gets in the way...

did nothing on it but have booked it in to get the suspension installed next week. one place quoted $90/hr and said about 3 hours incl. wheel alignment. another has said about $100 plus $42 for the wheel alignment.

Rebuilt Em's disc brake swivel hubs with new bearings & seals. All good.
Attempted to bolt the 7.5" Tar-Ox ventilated grooved + cross drilled rotors to the new drive flanges, not so good. Threads in them are flaming M10 METRIC!!!
Now I've got to drill out the drive flanges and go find some decent M10x30 bolts.

Replaced the leaking primary gear oils seal and the oil damaged clutch plate in my Cooper S.
Not sure why the oil seal failed? It didnt look damaged but the lip against the primary gear surface does appear to have less pressure than the new seal?
I guess I will have to wait and see if it fails again.

I read somewhere that the springs come off the red silicone seals lately and then there is no tension..
My 1360 has this same oily clutch problem, it's only got a bit over 11,000 miles up since assembly (with proper clutch seal tool).
There is now a black Rover seal that is allegedly better, but it's a bit dearer.

looked at it sadly sitting in the driveway.

although some gaskets to replace, a head gasket to do, a head to have shaved, new drums, new pads and brake springs, quarter window, stage one extractor kit with rc, some interior things to fix, some new tyres to add, and waiting on a carby manifold and then things should start getting busy.

when you go off road then crap can go wrong, it just takes a bit of time to get it all sorted out again.

Got Gafmo's motor off the stand and out the door today, tomorrow I'll fit the belt drive kit to the 1412 stroker motor. :P

after getting the Engine Home this morning "and a Huge Thanks to the Dr for the amount of time he has put into this engine" I spent the rest of the day find all the bolts and nuts to go onto it. Found all except 4 unc3/8 bolts starter motor & clutch slave.
I was expecting to take a few pics but the camera is missing in action..maybe tomorrow

Yesterday I installed the adjustable lower arms, tie rods and rear camber brackets.

(Ignore the massive overspray on the subframe etc :)

Then took Sean and the rest of his cricket team to the 1 Day International between NZ & Australia, where (along with about 200 other Kiwi Cricket players, sponsored by Milo) they provided the half time entertainment with a bit of a demonstration match on the pitch.

That's Sean standing up doing some weird 6 year old boy dance move. Unfortunately the snacks provided by the other parents meant it rapidly became more about the food rather than the game.

The today I set the camber (-1 degree rear, -1.5 degree front) and got the ride height roughly right. The Smootharide kit is still bedding in somewhat, so I'll come back to in a fortnight or so.

Those suspension bits are very pretty...

I finally got around to pulling out the windscreen wiper mech. The passenger side wheelbox and the replacement escutcheons never did work right.
I had to take the MS replacement urethane escutcheons to the belt sander to get the angle correct, they must be different for the UK cars (maybe by 10 degrees?).

Also changed out the wheelbox for one with zero play. Now the windscreen wipers contact the glass all the way around :)

Yes, the angle is incorrect. I think it is because ours have a pressing in the scuttle (so that water and crap can sit in them) and the pommie ones are plain.

I think the Doc makes some up.

Yes I do make them, both the early and late types. Dimensions for each are quite different- length, angle, diameter.
I machine these from black HDPE. It is more durable than the rubbery stuff the originals were moulded from.
Mini King carries mine in stock.
