After some difficulty getting my membership activated I have now joined the Ausmini community!

My first car was a 1976 Leyland Mini S. At that time my father had plenty of parts in the shed after fixing Minis on the side for the previous decades, so a rebuild was easily acheived. We actually Turbo charged it back in 1995.

15 years later I decided to buy a round nose morris Mini as I always wanted one. Trouble now, is my father has since gotten rid of all his mini parts :(

I was thinking for interest sake I might start a new topic showing pictures of the rebuild as it is a complete strip down.

I AM ACTIVATED!!!!

Hi guys and girls, my name is David (Brisbane) and it’s great to be back in the game….

I picked up my 65 Deluxe last week as a roadworthy driver – my first driveable since selling my first car – a 61 (I believe) 850 (which I bought when I was 12 and had restored and ready for when I got my P’s!) – a great little early car that one (stark white/fire engine red roof, black contessas - in Adelaide).

Since then have had 3 or 4 round noses in various states of disrepair, but never the time or motivation to see any projects through. This year the choice was made to buy a runner so that I can at least enjoy the car until the rego runs out in August next year – at which time it will be taken off of the road for a full going over…

As far as I know, it is a 65 deluxe with a non-numbers matching 998 and 3sync remote box (which needs a lot of double clutching at the moment). Red with a black roof, black flares and black bonnet stripes with some widened chrome steelies matched to standard brakes and hydro suspension (which I might say is all in pretty good nick!).

The plan is a pretty mild one, and unclear of engine at this stage, but in the meantime it will be getting a disc front end, stepped rear, maybe a hydro to dry conversion with hilos, and a bit of dash work – to get it all working again (has the 3 gauge dash – some electrics to do etc). That as well as a lot of parts gathering ready for the car to be put back together in a few years time. The car will remain red but as to what colour the roof/flares will be is still unknown as yet. The look I am after is low and fat, and am very much of the 10" wheel brigade.

Looking forward to getting stuck into it all – I’ll post up some pics once I have cleaned the car up to my standard. All of that whilst trying to juggle a house reno, needy girlfriend, a Boxer dog and work!!

Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Glad to see you around here finally.

As Simon said (hehe) keep the hydro. I love my car with hydro, the ride is really great. Some shocks would make it better as it does tend to lurch under acceleration / braking but for a regular driver, I would never go with a dry car.

Cheers, Nick

Thanks for the welcomes.

I might have to just learn a little more about the hydro setups and how to get the best out of them as it is all relatively new to me (all of the cars prior have been dry). I guess that's why there is a search button!!

Cheers, Dave.

Sure - just look like welded steelies - nothing special, and won't remain as the car evolves...

Hey Guys,

I'm Andrew, and I am from brisbane.

I used to work as a fitter and turner and also doing custom fabrication.
Curently working at Qantas at brisbane airport. :)

Just getting back into Mini's after a bit of a break, have previously had 9 of them... Mostly Clubmans with the exception of a 68 deluxe and a 62 850.

I have a 1963 997 cooper i am restoring now, So expect lots of questions!

Will post up a members ride thread up soon. :)

Andrew

Hi there,

You can call me Ginge, Im from Adelaide and as far as previous mini experience like most of you i once was able to make a claim of ownership of a (76) clubman but i haven't strayed too far from the tree (in my opinion, your milage may vary ;) )

Image

That was my main car until it needed a new gear box (its amazing how fast mechanics stop using the word MINI and replace it with the word BMW when you need to fix something on one of these...) but now that it is fixed it is mainly sitting in my shed.

Hence why im here gathering knowledge for when it is sold and its replacement is purchased.

Im not sure on what my plan is at the moment so don't mind me if i ask some sacrilegious questions ie i like the converted/chopped van/ute look but i dont see them too much on these boards...

I'm tossing up between a faithful club registered mini or a "free style" tricked out street legal thing....

Any way back to trawling thought the forums and mini shops on the internet.

Oh and I blame the owner of a re-sprayed dark blue Clubby in Flagstaff Hill who put this whole idea in my head when he drove past my old mans house the other day (good work mate :D )

To most it doesn't matter what "look" you go for as long as your into Mini's.
