I dont suppose you know what motor a 12A497 is out of, its whats on the motor & i cant find anything on the net that really identifys it the gear box is 22g1128 miniK / mk2 cooper S from what info I can Find out.

22g1128 = p/n 22G1338 = All 4 Synchro with remote

Anybody speak french here? wot are these lads saying about 12A497/:

a+

ce ne serait pas un 1300 automatique ?

j'ai trouvé ceci.. All fwd 1300 Automatic 1275cc 12A

Not an exact science, but an internet translator has made this of it - at least you can get the drift of what is going on. Cheers Dat
--------------------

J'ai need for the Masters of sciences of the minis. aujourd'hui j'ai recovered two engines 1275 including 1 I n'arrive step to find the source. only identification that j'ai is moulded in the cast iron of the block 12A497. then, two things differ d'un driving normal from minis, first is that in block FAC postpones two plates are held by a nut chacunes, and they are on the level of the driving block, including the one reniflar d'huile share. then 2nd odd point, on the level of the calorstat, the cylinder head east is bored to the bottom, and a pipe starts from this hole to join the hose connection which goes towards the radiator? qu'en think? j'ai forgotten to specify the block is red... like the 1275... thank you for your assistance???
a+

it would not be one 1300 automatic?

j'ai found this. All fwd 1300 Automatic 1275cc 12A

Verifie the numbers stp...

I find any ref. like Ca in 12a.........

Normally in 12a, you have a figure + a letter.....

12a2a, 12a2b, 12a2c............

Look at well

Euh if you have two trap doors on the face arriere, c'est which you are in presence d'un 998cc. desoler for you, but red, c'est to be mistaken, and the 12A497, c'est the reference of "fonderies". They do not allow me a l'identifier.

would have a means of verifier s'il is well one 998 Cm3? such an amount of worse if not, in any event I l'ai not paid... in more j'ai already recovered an engine of subway 63 cv with 60000km... in good condition of walk for 500frs. thank you in any case for your assistance... I believed that the red color was reserved for the 1275?

Ben to have of it the heart Net, you finds the plate of the number of engine which of finds on the mating plane of culase between two fixings of l alternator. If its starts with 99H == 998cc, 10H == 1071cc (I believe), and 12H == 1275cc. If not, if this small plate n exist more, you deculasse, and you calculates rolls it with your fingers and your computer.

Shirl,

If this is a 1275cc donk you will need a disk brake front end to get her registered (well unless you choose your rego checker carefully).

12A prefix is definitely a 1275 motor, could be a Metro.
12A was also use in UK Minis, 1990 on.
Sorry I don't have a listing handy on the `497', but that just tells you what fittings it had- carb, ignition, C/R, etc.

Hi bobby
do you build the SAE cars yourself?
our uni Sydney Uni builds one every year and they use a honda bike engine
love watching the building process you see much from chassis to body to engine applications

Hey Bobby, you certainly picked the right day to turn up at the Lake - usually there are three men and dog - what were there 7-8 Minis).

Hope you enjoy the club - don't forget the Show and Shine (bring the Clubby), and the run to Wagga for their Show and Shine on the long weekend (the locals have arranged some motel accom for us - thanks Tim!) and ask about Tech Days if you happen to have a problem with the Mini (as unusual as that may be  )

68 Matic - Bobby works for your opposition (NSW Uni!)

Mark from Wollongong,
G'day,
found site today looks to be very handy, as i am very new to mini's, looked for ages to find a cheap round nose (nearly gave up) then a few months ago found two within a couple weeks, $250 for a deluxe (bit of rust in usuall spots) drove it home and $1100 for imaculate 850 (also drove it home)
orig plan was use bigger motor from deluxe in 850 shell (thats it, nothing special) but more i get into it more i want to do!!
the 850 is off to be painted diff colour in a couple weeks, and a 12g295 head (i bought through trading post for $50) is off to be reconditioned and become unleaded ready. i also picked up for 1.5su for it.

nah no mechanical experience at all, before touching these two minis i think the closest thing to "mechanical experience" was changing the oil and filters etc.. on my daily driving car (2000 subaru liberty RX)
I purchased myself copies of both the vizard books and I am learning quite alot as i go, but don't be supprised if i post up a question or two if i get stuck with something,
