Well, yesterday, I picked it up. Not literally - I'm not that strong! :P   But it finally has a rear parcel shelf and seat belts. And child restraint anchors. I'm stoked! :D The boy (5) had his first ride in the back, and the little girl (22 months) had her first ride at all. My wife came out, so it was also our first trip in it as a family since before the girl was born. Very happy! :D

I also changed the spark plugs (fouled, dry fouled, carbon build up, no oil (checked them hot), after being started for moving round a workshop lots over the past month), and the top radiator hose. My engine has a non-standard top engine steady - the engine's sitting at an unusual angle, and as such the standard 1275 top hose doesn't sit quite right... Might've contributed to it looking a bit dead. :? And I also got my radiator overflow system working better - I've had it on there for years, but when I changed the top radiator hose, I found it was empty.  I filled the overflow hose (it's rather long - tank is sitting loosely on the driver's side, between the firewall and the spring tower (can't think of a better term!)), managed to get all the air out, it's now holding the radiator full of water and the overflow tank, too. :D

Today, I used it to pick up boy from school, where I was called Mr Bean by a 5 year old. I didn't say it, but at least Stiggie wouldn't roll my car in the first corner! 8) Then used it to take boy to Rugby - we all park on the hill overlooking the park, Mini didn't like the angle of the hill and the grass and spun half the way up there... The kids there were more appreciative. :) Not because of the wheelspin, just because it was such a small and noisy car. :)

Spent about 3.5 hours working on the car today, pulling that wretched steering rack out. $30 ball joint splitter from supercheap was well worth the money! Undoing everything so that the subframe could tilt was the killer... eventually got it to drop about 3/4 inch at the back and was able to wiggle it out (after the stupid U bolt finally decided to play nice).

There were two plates near the corner of the body at the front wheels that looked like jacking points. When I jacked it up, the floor's bent inwards a little under the weight. Is this normal? Or... where should I be jacking it? Theres a small hole about 1/2 inch on each side, a bit back from the front wheel, is that supposed to be a jacking point?

Finally got off my jetlagged ass and did some work on the megajolt..
- Went past Jaycar, bought some shielded wire and spaghetti cover stuff
- Jacked up car
- Removed radiator
- Tried to fit 1 5/16 socket.. engine mount in the way
- Removed engine mount
- Removed starter motor
- Undid crank pulley with total disrespect for lock washer
- Tried to remove pulley - fan in the way
- Removed fan so I can remove pulley (what else needs to be removed on this damn thing!!?)
- Attached trigger wheel to crank pulley
- Went to put crank pulley back on ... aargh crap torque wrench is at my parents.

Question:
- Should I be replacing any seals at the front of the crank while it is apart?

Thanks!

Tim.

These are NOT jacking points, they were attachments for the bodyshell on the BMC conveyor line when being built.
Only safe place to jack a Mini is under the subframes. Apart from the stock jacking point in the sill (if not rotted...)

Is that the hole up the side of the sill? About a foot back from the well? I can't see anywhere to put a jack... I need to lower the subframe to get to the rack, so I can't jack it from there..

I put a 4x3 timber across the car under the floor... and 2 jacks under it.
