Hi All,

First post for me although I joined the forum some months ago. My name is Al (Alwyn) and I am a Hobart based semi-retired mechanical engineer still doing design work when the project looks interesting. I have been a rev-head since I was a boy and have owned a reasonable variety of cars over the journey such as FX Holden (modified), EH Holden (slightly wild), XB GS V8 panel van, XT Fairmont 351 show car, EF XR6, BA XR6 Turbo, MY08 WRX and a number of 4x4 vehicles. I currently have a Toyota FJ Cruiser, Lancer Ralliart and, my labour-of-love, a 1965 MK1 Cooper S.

I am 3 years into a complete nut & bolt restoration. The shell was taken back to bare metal and finished in 2 pack Toga white which is the original colour. Although not original, the roof has been painted Royal red. The drivetrain is complete other than a coat of paint, and although not a matching number with the ID plate, is a genuine S engine and is pretty standard other than extractors and straight cut gears. The front and rear sub-frames were blasted and painted with moisture cured urethane which is really tough. I have a small blast cabinet (great tool) and I bought an old tent to use as a spray booth so anything that will fit in the blast cabinet I have done myself.

The car is slowly going back together with both sub-frames, all suspension, front and rear brakes, master cylinders and wiper bits back on the body. I also have lots of bits finished on the shelf ready to go back on.

I am still thoroughly enjoying the whole process and have found the forum helpful on a number of occasions.

Keep up the good work, I'm sure I'll need a helping hand again.

G'day Al,

I"m looking forward to seeing a few images of your work.
I went down a similar path with the home refinishing. You can just get a swing arm in these cabinets, and that's as big as you need on a resto I reckon.

Cheers

Mick

Graham from Heritage Garage, Costa Mesa, California.
www.HeritageGarage.com if you are interested in seeing what we are all about.
I own an Australian built 65 Cooper S rally spec car and two Australian Mokes among too many other Minis and project to list.

Looking for a recommendation for a good reliable source for Australian parts at decent prices, especially for the Mokes.

Welcome Graham. Nice looking website with some interesting photos and stories.

First port of call for Australian Mini and Moke parts are the Mini businesses listed here - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=83593

The How To section and the search function should help you learn about the differences in Oz built cars, or feel free to ask questions in Mini Chat.

Hi all...

I'm Eric.. near Mandurah, Sth of Perth... I have been building my first mini for over a year now and have just about got it sorted for license...

It's a 1975 Sth African import and I got it as some one else's unfinished project. I have been over at a UK forum for a while but glad to find a local (same country anyway) site with great info... the link for my build is below...

http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... australia/

I have touched every part of this car using mainly new parts from the UK but re-used what I could.. (wasn't much) It's been a steep learning curve for me as I normally build normal cars like Hq's and torana's... heehee... been great fun and cant wait to get out cruising...

Cheers

Hi all
My name is a Rob and I live down in Melbourne. Learnt to drive in a mini many years ago back in the UK, still remember it fondly it was a 1988 Red Hot. Have always loved the mini and thought about getting another but life got in the way a bit. Anyway after talking about it a bit more recently the CEO also known as the trouble and strife or the misses or Da Boss as the kids call her. Turned round a said 'stop talking about it and just go and buy one'. You don't get many green lights like that so I am now on the hunt. This forum is Quality, fully of information and some really interesting stories, great car pics and what seems like a good bunch of people. I am bound to ask a heap of dumb questions along the way but I am sure I won't be the first or last person to do that. Anyway just wanted to say high and hopefully see some of you round Melbourne when I find the right car. :-)
