Hi all,

New to the forum and am enjoying the wealth of information.

I'm located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and am currently searching for my first mini (hoping to find a nice round nose)

Cheers,

After Christchurch weather dont even think of Brisbane unless you want to loose weight and sweat it off.
Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day...sometimes even 6 or 7. I think they are fairly leanient on car mods but someone else could confirm that.
Adelaide the closest to Christchurch in design you will find. Both originally designed by the same dude, although CHCH is more going ahead apart from earthquakes. It still gets hot but its a dry heat, Car mods are fairly tight (narrow minded) I think, but again hopefully someone can confirm.
My Dads in Cashmere and bros in Spreydon & Redcliffs.

Iam guessing bringing cars over wont be cheap.

Yeah Austin I live in Brisbane and I have to say unless you are happy with 40 degrees plus one day and then torrential rain the next, it's not for you. It's not too bad if you have aircon frankly, it just hits you when you walk outside...

Hi all,

I am Matt, I live in Adelaide, and I have just finished a four and half year rebuild of our Mini K, "Edith" for my wife, who is an English nurse, so she suits the car very well. She saw the car for sale in the carpark at her hospital and we bought it that afternoon, knowing nothing at all about minis when we did. It has been a terrific learning journey and mostly very positive. We drove it for six months, decided it was a keeper, and then I pulled it apart to rebuild it from the ground up. I did pretty much all the work, except for the jobs of rebuilding the head for unleaded fuel, having the gearbox rebuilt by a specialist and the bores and crankshaft reground one size by an engine company here in Adelaide. "Edith" has been restored to what I guess you would call factory specifications.

We took a logic that it was a very cheap sports car and that any money spent on making it safe and reliable was money well spent. We have renovated it for our own enjoyment and plan to drive it till we have to surrender our licenses on our way to the nursing home.

"Edith" is mostly a Sunday car, and lives in the garage, though sometimes I drive her to work just for the smiles I get from fellow commuters in the morning traffic. We have learned to add ten minutes to any trip because it seems wherever we park, someone comes out to tell us about the mini they used to own. We love it, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Loving the forum, lots of reading here, much of which I wish I had read BEFORE I started work. Never mind, never too late to learn,

Matt

G'day everyone, I live in Bowen Nth QLD and just bought an old 68 mini deluxe in a thousand pieces off Gumtree. Bonus is the engine no. starts with 9FS/AY so it's a Cooper S Mk1 by my reckoning. Stripped the motor out and the head off today... bit odd, the bore is 72mm and the stroke looks to be around 87mm.. 1420? Can someone confirm that please..

Welcome Malampaya. You're right, it is a Mk1 S block.
Love to see some pictures if you can upload them. Did you find it up there or did you freight it all up to FNQ?

I bought it up in Townsville, the body and suspension needs a bit of work as you can see but the motor looks to be in really good nick. I am just a bit concerned about the capacity as it looks to have been bored and stroked which could make it a bit more unreliable. Is there a chart where I can confirm the capacity of the engine? Some photo's for you..

Not likely to be unreliable. If you dont want it I can swap you a standard one
Does it have disc brakes? With a 1275 you would require that.
There isnt a chart for your capacity, just do the maths on your bore and stroke.
Looks like you have a really nice project base there and welcome to ausmini.

Hi there, my name is Tim. I recently bought my first Mini. A 1965 roundnose, Link 1275 motor.... So much fun to fang around. I've got much to learn but am enjoying myself as I piece it all together. I've joined the Vic Mini Club and intend to get along to a few events starting next weekend with the half bay in a day drive. I'm tight for space at my current residence but have a project in me if I can find some room. I love the website and all the Minis.
Cheers

Hi my name is Matt. i've got a MK 2 cooper s crystal white, which my dad brought in 1978. he wanted to restore it to concoures condition. He started in the early 80,s and over the years it slowly came together. Then around 1997 it was 99% finished and i think he lost interest or couldn't justify any more money to be spent [ or hide it from mum], so there she sat for 11 more years. Anyway long story short he wanted to sell her, i told him he was mad, rego'ed and started driving her. I can't tell you what it was like to finally drive her down the road for real, i had done so many 1000's of pretend miles as a kid, it was special to me. Dad must have seen that and how much i loved her that He told me that i should look after her for him. Dad and i had some good drives together, the Bathurst run 50 years celebration being one of the best.

And now i guess it's come around, i'm hiding stuff i've spent on her from my wife. Any way Lisa and my daughter Lily love her just as much as i do, she's a big part of my family and i could never sell her. Really enjoying Ausmini forum lots of reading its great. Maybe someone can help me to get some photos up so i can share them with everyone.
Thanks, Matt.
