I sold (Dads) the last GT to a fella here in Brisbane. Sure he is making all sorts of wild claims about it's history. All pull.

anyway

No such thing as a 1973 GT. Sold in 73 but made in 72.

You can't argue with the compliance late. I have 2 and know of others that state "Build Date" 1/73. Officially, these are 1973 cars although they probably were built in late '72.
Q. Why would some one not buy a toyota corolla in dec 05, but wait until Jan 06? To get a 2006 model of course!

Build date, or the date they were complied?

More than likely they were built in 1972, but COMPLIED in 1973, hence the 1973 date on the compliance plate.

But, having said this, I will never argue with you Gav......for you are the GT Master and I am the GT Rookie

Anton,

The story of the Gt is full of mystery!

Those plates must have been put on towards the end of the production line. I don't think each one would have been complied individually. Compliance in those days surely must have been 'riveting a plate onto the car'! Someone, somewhere must know a worker from the factory who can give a definitive answer,

Although the plate only says '1/73' it seems logical that it would go on on the line. But who's to say that it wasn't begun on 31/12/72 and finished on 1/1/73! It's a minor point I guess as we can definitely say production ceased in January 1973. :D

BTW, back on original topic, I have 3. 2 are roadworthy - both 1/73 cars and 1 currently being restored (very slowly!) which is a 12/71 and registered here in 04/72.
