Isn't S "Sports"? Like Mini Cooper Sports??

LS = Leyland Sports as John Cooper's mini mods like remote gearshift were all ruled out because of cost savings by then so they couldn't really call it an S, and it had Leyland changes to it so hence LS???

All I know is Mini 1100 K Stands for Mini Small Block Killer! 8)

yes but the leyland equivalent to the cooper S was the GT

the LS is more like a deluxe with a big block option

chong you hand around roundy owners WAY too much.

GT is better than the cooper S,

S stands for super

LS never pretended to be a sports car, just th most luxurious
mini ever produced from the factory in Australia.

Case closed.

In what way? It was just a MK2 S with ugly tail lights and about 20kg or so of extra crap front metal...
They built it because they ran out of decent bodies before decent motors...
I am proud to say I wrecked (a bent) one to transform my MiniMatic into Mini Ha-Ha... 8)

The cooper S wasn't a "cooper Sports". The S stood for "Special" as in an amalgamation only special - enough units had to be produced and sold to qualify for saloon race and rally entries, but originaly there was no intention to make the Coop S a regular production model.

And regardless of what Leyland might have claimed the Mini S stood for, I think we all know that here was just a cynical marketing attempt at creating cooper S associations (from an era when the minis were still considered stylish and desirable) to what was essentialy by then an outdated budget model in a freshened up clubman skin and nothing else, competing purely on price and which was (by the mid 70's) neither desirable nor fashionable.

just got a gt shell, but need to find a LOT of the original parts - I have some stuff - rh tank, discs etc, but no 6500 tacho, no proper trim and it now has dry suspension :? checked it over and I'm sure it is a genuine camino gold fella - very early one. Would still `swap' for a cooper s though! :D

re the 6500 tacho- surely someone like Olympic Instruments could take a stock Mini S one and repaint the dial for you.

Better instruments??
All Clubbies have them in a crap position, can't see 'em for the steering wheel unless you sit that close you could get the windscreen ground to your prescription..

OK yes the back seat is better I have the GT one in Ha-Ha. 8)
I had the fronts in it too but got sick of the backache every day (after 8 miles to work) so pulled them out.

wouldnt it seem funny calling the mini cooper s "Mini Cooper Super"?

so i would say it stands for mini cooper special... or mini cooper sport..
