Problem was primary gear seized on crank.
Pretty pissed off about it since it was a BRAND NEW primary gear.

Thanks to Greig from Mini Classic for the use of his workshop and Graham and Jai it was fixed in no time.

Got the NRMA to tow me there for free - told them my car had broken down in the driveway!! Membership just paid for itself.

RE Carby: Apparently Midel sell them brand spanking new for under $300. A good option considering it could cost a fair bit to rebuild and still no guarantees it will work. It's an odd SU out of a volvo - linkages and stuff in weird positions. I only got it because it was all I could get my hands on at the time. The car is now set up for SU, and I want HIF44 as Ive been told the ones with the float bowl out the side are no good for motorkhanas etc.

I will just have to battle with it like this until I can get it sorted, but at least it's mobile. :?

Sometimes the primary gear stops doing its thing because the gasket between the gearbox/block and the flywheel/clutch cover is too thin. We've had this happen to us before. There is two different thickness gaskets you can buy.

Stops you in a dead hurry that one. And hard to diagnose, as when you pull the cover off, everything works a treat!

According to GR, the primary gear bushes were seizing on the crank... even though they had plenty of clearance (it's a new Oz made primary gear).
They put a good S/H gear in to fix it.

the hunt must be on for a new carb for bob. or at least a rebuild kit for what you have. it doesn't look too difficult to put thru it so i would have a crack at it bob.

Cheers

Aaron
