i have to blame my dad for my mini sickness....
he got me into them years ago lijke when i was 13 or so.
he once bourght me a mini world book one of the first ones too and it had a great white mini in it witch to this day i still love to bits...anyway then he told me that he used to own one when he was a kid...it was a original copper s from uk as the owner pervious to my day imported it for racing on a round circuit.
dad got it basicaly brand new no damage as well ...still set up for a round circuit too so he had to get all the steering adjusted to drive o the road .
he owned it for years but his girl freind at the time said it was too small so he sold it....what a cow....then he ended up breaking up with her anyway....think the mini would be worth a pritty penny if he still had it???
that why i drive one...love then to bits....wouldnt have anything else...

I have my mate Ian to blame for NAV
the story goes like

Ian rings me one day and goes do you want a mini?
I go yeah but i can't afford to buy one right now.
Ian goes no worries mate it's free!!!!
I say cool why not.

and this is what i ended up with

My first sighting of NAV:

Currently at my house the are three mini's. These two plus NAV

Suffice it to say that i got banned from Ian's house by the missus cause the next time i went there i picked up a 67 deluxe :D

I drive a Mini (no wait, i drive 2) 'cause there's nothing else like it.

In no other car can you:
-Wave like a moron at the people on the footpath and get a wave back. In a dunnydoor they would simply say "wally".
-Go around a corner that has an optimistic '35' sign, and get to the outside of the corner, have a quick glance at the speedo and its most of the way to 100.
-Rock up at the pub, have 6 people climb out, and the bystanders say "Heh. Nice work"
-Have drum brakes so bad that they should be illegal, and one of your mates gets in and says "Geez, these are better than my mini"
-Only have three spanners, one screwdriver, and remove the engine with ease. And In 30mins.

And what else, but they are cheap to run, cheap and easy to fix, good resale value, and simply the best classic you could wish to own.

All the more to the MINI!

well

the specific reason now
that in the next few weeks ( hope it can and cant last that long - the mini goes that long, and the car doesnt stay for sale that long)
The mini will be driven everyday i think

cause the usual car the magna will be down the laneway with a forsale sign and pages on it
hoping that someone can come and unown it from me 8)

so
i hope the mini likes being driven
i dont reckon its been driven for more than 2 consecutive days more than 5 kays for 7 months
i shall try to take it easy i think :P

Because they are a motoring icon. And because I'm old enough to know that in the late '60s the Cooper S was THE car to have and would outperform virtually anything else around. Fast, Fun and Fantastic handling, unmatched by any other car of the time.

Anyone who wanted street cred aspired to own an S. All my mates had them. We'd cruise down Rundle Street (as it was then) on a Saturday night in a convoy of a dozen or more hot Coopers which sounded and looked sensational.

Never been without one since.

They had a character and classiness all of their own, which is why they appealed to everyone, even the rich and famous for whom money was no object.

And they were simple, easy to fix and tune and there were heaps of specialist parts around, not only from BMC Special Tuning, but also loads of other tuners and traders.

Nowadays they are still distinctive and have a character unmatched by anything else, BMW imitations included. And the handling is still in a class of its own....

All those reasons and more. The history has to be a big part of it.

aye, agreed, all those reasons and more.

one big one for me is the community, its great people willing to help out each other and also getting to do fun stuff (like bbqs and events) with like minded people.

my dad got me into the mini, he owns a MG himself and that got me interested into English cars, so Ive been interested ever since I was a young lad. i like the mini shape, curves and style.
First time i drove in a mini i was hooked and wanted one for my self so that?s why I have bought my self a mini, and im still loving it, and learning more about it every day!
Also what other car in the world has such a following with people?... And how many car magazines are dedicated to one car? So this makes the mini an icon. You can?t get as many smiles from a ricer burner...so GO the mighty mini!

I'd been wanting a car to restore and to play with to learn more about mechanics. A friend acquired a 68 Cooper S, and after a drive I was hooked. They drive like nothing else (a good thing), old people all have a soft spot for them so you aren't hooning you're having a spirited drive, rich history, great looks, easy to work on, cheap on fuel, cheap on parts, great conversation topic/starter, something a bit different, turns heads/gets waves, and as has been said before - no two minis are the same :)
