Congrats to all who won trophies

Congrats to MCC for a great event this year and for Ausmini forum for assisting in numbers.

And big thanks for those that come from far away.

The only diappointing comments were those that came from people that believed they should have placed better than they did, you painted a poor picture of yourselves by carrying on in public.

Next year it will be a battle of the vans Gafmos mini K Doorlady's traveller, Doogies van Mikey and my traveller and mini K cooooool.

whens the next run?

steve

ICE ICE Baby... you have a point, and I can see where you're coming from.. BUT...

You've gotta understand that from a judging point of view mutant especially stands out because it's the flavour of the day - the Rice-car movement is alive and well in Aus at the moment and thats whats cool - therefore chameleon paint, big ICE, big wheels and lotsa chrome is gonna win the day cos.. it's cool.. or so they tell me :)

Jan's a lot of things but I probably couldnt call her a trophy hunter - the simple reason being that she actually drove mutant up to syd (i wouldnt wanna pay that bill) and spent a good deal of time and money making YOUR mini show better. Ron as well for that matter. Otherwise you would have just been looking at Granny cars (although i love granny cars) and Rovers all day. Im sure there are many people in NSW who would have relished the opportunity to have a perv at mutant in the flesh.

If she was hunting trophies, mutant would have arrived on the back of a trailer wrapped in cotton wool while jan flew from melbourne to sydney business class sipping champagne and wondering about how many trophies she'd win.

So in summary, good on ya Jan for taking your car up there, you know your car isnt my cup of tea, but so what - it's obviously enjoyed by a lot of others.

their hardly classic mini's. its not Jan or Ron i'm critising its the fact that their in a class of their own, of course they were going to get first or second just in which order? No-one else had a chance in that category is all i'm saying.
how can you call them non classic minis when you deive a new  :? mini ......... sounds like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me..... also i have seen the care and effort jan has put into that mini, when i was at makkas on saturday i watched jan and john meticulously clean, dry, vaccum, polish and buff every square millimetre of that mini and i believe that if someone puts in that sort of effort into a car then they deserve to win trophys. also the trophy hunting remark was totally stupid. ausmini is a like a family, there is one bad egg , and ours is on ice...........
By the way i am Ben Beal. i do not need to hide behind a user name to protect my identity. my 2c.

i appreciated reading everyones points of view , i never actually wanted to get into the different personalities of people merely passing comment on the different classifications of cars. I never mentioned $$$$ spent on anyones car , obviously that is other peoples opinions , I'm not a member of NSWMCC and they dont have a forum as such. Sending one email to one person airing my opinions isn't go to do much so I thought this might be a good place to air my opinions I thought maybe others felt the same way on this forum? Jan dont take this personally i dont know who you are ? so thats why i didnt comment about people in general, merely the classifications. I've got that off my chest lets move on

Please send an email, if you don't make your opinion heard, then the committee will not know about your opinion. If you don't then i suggest you not make it heard here as it is unfair to complain about a club without taking the issue to the club itself. it makes the club look as though they don't care when in reality they are unaware of the issue. It is important that you take it to the committee.
The club does have a chat group.

Let's all have a dummy spit, because my car wasn't good enough to win a tin cup. When I was a kid my old lady would tan my arse if I had that attitude. What is it an ego or spoilt child mentality. Get over it, there are more important things in life and just be greatful you have excess money that doesn't have to be spent on food and shelter. This thread is ordinary, congradulate the winner's for their time and effort. :x

Location: Sydney - strangely, I am glad of the sight of hills!!
hmmm modified class - i saw at least half a dozen cars that could easily win the modified class, which included some very impressive conversions.

It comes down to the criteria that judging is done by, which are written down, and available as far as i am aware. What it usually comes down to is execution, rather than what mods have been done.

And i thought that it was great that most of the cars there were driven there. the only ones with an excuse to trailer it were the race cars and baracade, because his is not actually going yet. I thought it most impressive for him to bring a project that is still underway.

Just look at the car that won car of the show. Darren Burnes' White 850 (Cooper S look-a-like). Not some huge budget conversion, just a simple, neat, well presented car. Not some $80 concours trailer queen - it get's driven often - just like Jan's and Ron's cars from what I can gather.

Also, to avoid so called trophy chasing, our show is different in that you have to pick one catergory and enter that only - this way if someone does spend $100k and blow everyone off park, they can't take home all the silverware!!

most of my work is on modifying engines and getting as much power as possible form small engines but if i want prizes for that i have to compete with race cars, big boys with big money and big toys but hey i still go cos its fun its fun to see the underdog doing something for once.

On the subject of attitude, I was a really good dart player when i was a little younger, i mean really good, my girlfriend at the time always used to say i was too competative and had to win all the time at what ever expense, that was true (when we broke up i stopped playing) she aslo used to say the easiest way to kill a man is to let him jump from his ego to reality, its a big drop i can tell you.

"too learn how to win first you must learn how to lose" keep that in mind when your at these types of competitions as there is always someone who is better or has done more work than you have, it gives you a goal for next time.

That's deep man.

Jai, have you been drinking at work again???

Just kidding - what you said is really true. It's the attitude with which I've started my racing. I'm a competitive person, but I know I have a really long way to go before I'll win anything, so I'm actually enjoying the racing now, knowing that winning may come with time (and $$$$'s).

I have to say I agree with some of what ICECOLD.. says..

I am talking from ignorance however because I haven't entered a car show so

but here goes, whatever the criteria for the category and whatever the category first timers and beginners are always in danger of being put off by 'the pros' by this I mean the more experienced people with thier cars. This applies to any competiive activity, really in the interests of whatever it is you are doing ie showing your cars, minis restoration... these people need to be encouraged to participate and stick with it. So this sort of calls for a entry level category or categories.

One example of how this could be done is that each entrant initially nominates the category that they would like to enter, (this could be any of the available categories, but polite suggestions from organisers wouldn't go astray) so they enter the category, and lets say they win a prize (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) they then get a card signed to say that car and owner blah, blah, have won catergory such and such after say 3 or 4 wins they are promoted to the next category up which is a bit more competitive with slightly better cars etc. This would have a couple of benefits it would encourage people to work on thier cars to improve them so they can more up categories, each competitor would have a better chance at winning in thier category so it remains fair. Also the very best cars would be competeing against one another so it remains competitve for the top and not a case of just rocking up to collect a trophy (not saying this is what anyone does).

If a person enters a category too low they move quickly up the ranks untill they get to a more competitive category, if the person enters a category too high then they will not will much (read not at all) and should be allowed to nominate for a lower category.

This is my 2 cents but this sort of thing has worked in other sports / interest areas, but I think it would have to be well organised with in the car clubs organisation.
