Yep, instead of pulling it to the right, you pull it to the left. As most people are right handed, they can't figure why the ^%^#$&^ won't open...

Well actually the Commodore doesn't have any locks at all (not even tailgate). We welded them over and resprayed it. Everything is operated by remote, all doors, boot and bonnet are alarmed, triple point immobilisor, two stage shock sensor and a two stage microwave sensor. Didn't bother with a glass break sensor as the glass is tinted, thus is easy to smash silently.

I know that its digging up an old thread, but has anyone ever thought about doing this to a roundnose Mini... Just have flat doors, no handles, all remote operated...

sounds pretty cool to me. 8)

Yeah I had thought that too. Even installing a coffee machine so when you disarm/unlock a car, a freshly brewed cup of coffee is awaiting you in a cup holder.

Seriously, having everythgin all remote operated may mean you want to carry extra remotes around with you and back up batteries and such.

I used to have a Gemini which had a drivers door lock so stuffed that anything flat would open it.

I would hide the car keys and my wallet under the carpet when I went to the beach.

On the way back to the car I would pick up a paddle pop stick (always plenty on the ground at the beach in summer) and use that to open the door! :D

My mum and dad's '80 commodore wagon eventually got so buggered that all you had to do to the drivers door handle was lift it up then let it down slowly and watch the door lock rise as it unlocks :D

Great idea, remove the gearstick... that aswell as a fuel pump cutoff switch.. it wont be going anywhere in a hurry.

I thought I needed an immobiliser to get through licensing, but the auto sparky reckons 25yr old+ don't need one? Anyone know about that? WA. licensing

Battery cutout switch inside the boot is a bloody good idea. Wire it with a 10A fuse or circuit breaker bypass, so your clock or radio presets (and alarm) still work.

Guys if a crook wants to steal your car, they will. Doesnt matter how much u spend on security. How do u reckon the "ram raiders" steal the WRX's? THey have pin code immobolisers and they reckon it takes the crooks 15 seconds from entry, to bypass the immoboliser and drive away. They even bring along their own ignition barrell ..... its crazy ....

So installing an alarm is only a deterant. They work 99% of the time, but as i said if they really want to steal it, they will.

I had a customer (little old lady) who had her mini stolen a couple of times so she decided to do something about it. She chained it to a concrete block and the next time it was stolen the thieves just put the concrete block on the bonnet and drove away. Moke owners used to come into the shop all the time buying stuff that had been stolen off their pride and joy but the best one was when someone stole an exhaust system.
