Its called vinyl welding and none of these guys would have done it. To get the original looking lines you'll have to use a proffesional service (at approx $100 per complete door card). The clothing type vinyl form spotlight and clarks rubber looks different to the bmc vinyl as well - its got much more texture to it than the original mini vinyl and I think its slightly thicker. the proff. guys have their own suppliers that will get a closer match.

All of the above is only valid if you care for the "original" look offcourse. Many reupholsterers just sew the lines onto the fabric and its a bit cheaper.

Note that the door cards Newton sells are for UK type minis - ie MK1 type sliding window or MK3 type single pane windup. The local quarterlight doors are unique to OZ and none of the Newton door cards will fit Australian windup doors. (can still use them for early MK1 sliding window models).

Just digressing a weebit. Since my wife is into decoupage' she waterproofs all her boards with a mixture of aquadhere and water(1:1) and once dry nothing gets through it

Let it dry and it sets into the fine grain of the MDF(or any type of particle board) and allows you to seal with paint without the paint soaking into the board.

Works every time - but let it dry naturally - DO NOT use a hair dryer or heat gun lest you want a burnt texture(aquadhere bubbles when tacky...lol)

Hooroo
