Smokie, it's probably because they are going too fast for you to see!

OK, this is all getting out of hand.

WhoDat, I'll concede your point that I don't know for certain the circumstances involved (it is possible, but not likely they were "on the job"), if you will concede that I am in a better position to judge the situation than you - as I said, I was there and you weren't.

This was not meant to be a cop-bashing excercise, but was aimed at a couple of specific individuals. It seems that some people have some very strong opinions on this, you and me included.

I am thinking about making an official complaint through the proper chanels, but past experience indicates that it probably won't be worth it. My word against that of at least six police officers.

I made my point, and that is all I have to say about it.

Watto

Pretty much all marked police vehicles I see are always obeying the road rules..

But I have noticed in my area of late there is a huge amount of unmarked XR8's (with GT stripes) and SS Commodore utes doing the rounds... Some of which drive at whatever speed they see fit

I personally have the same feeling. In canberra if you don't look for unmarked Cops you don't see a cop for 3 month's on the road. People drive like Cr@p beacuse of it.

I like the idea of marked Cop Cars Their Presance is noticed and people are more courteous. it's better for everyone if their just out there.

and anyone can be a dangerous driver it's easy to pick on coppers.

the cops are not above the law, they tell us it is NEVER ok to exceed the speed limit and there is NO excuse for speeding.

if the police can't set an example and can't follow the laws of our country then who else should?

if there were no sirens, they should not have been speeding.
They have sirens, they know how to use them, the fact they weren't using them indicates something.

i'm with watto on this one.

I didn't mean to sound too soft on the coppers, sounds like they should have been kicked in the nuts for being a cunch of you kno whats

I agree with the philosophy that if they enforce the rules so strictly then how can the ever break something like that unless it's life or death YEAH a bit two faced from the two of them. They should be repremanded for what they did. you should have got their rego and put in writing.

The problem with this is you piss them off you can't go anywhere without being pulled for a random licence check. They are known to look after their own.

I personally can't understand the 0% tolerance on VIC roads when the Australian Standard clearly states 10% (yet another great example)

My life must be nearing completion, because here's another situation where I just don't care.
The Copper's want to speed limit cars to 120 kph..............Great idea.
The Coppers cars want to travel faster than 120 kph........A better idea
If I'm being held at gun point, they better be travelling faster than 120.
You hate them when they hold a speed gun, love them when a crim has a handgun.
Make it what you will.

ok i would like to add fuel to the fire :P

this is FIRST HAND INFO (not a quote) from my time at the CFA in victoria, and one could assume that similar if not the same laws apply to other emergency vehicles.

A vehichle must obey all road laws unless in an emergency situation.
if the vehicle is under emergency conditions they must display lights or sirens or both (eg it is ridiculous to have sirens blaring aournd the neighborhood at 3am)

so if these couple of police cars were in an emergency, they should have at least had the red and blue lights on. sirens are f*king loud, and you refrain from using them if you can. they could have warned watto.

innocent until proven guilty? (joke mode) not in this country! (/joke)look at the new terrorism laws-you can be detained for up to 2 weeks if you are suspected of knowing something. you are not entitled to a phone call, so no-one will know what has happened to you.

a police presence will encourage people to behave, look at our major roads that are covered with sped cameras. who is stupid enough to speed there? a ppolice presence is the same. I drive between geleong and ballarat a fair bit, and i ahve noticed a very strong olice presence on the road. this is a very dangerous road, and the police are welcome in my opinion. if you dont do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.

bottom line: these officers did not seem to be under emergency conditions, therefore there is no justification for the speed they were doing. police officers are NOT above the law

onya Watto,,,i`d make the complaint if i were you

I`ve made them myself before , well worth the effort, some of them are just dangerous weapons out of control

The point it see here is that Watto is en-raged about the idiot driving , speeding & passing in a dangerous manner in a dangerous situ

that`s what i see & totally agree with Watto,,,

if they`re in such a hurry to a crime scene(or whatever), then obviously common sense must prevail & saftey should be first,,,,no point not actually getting to said scene (if there actually was one) cause you`ve crashed & taken 2 elderly people & 3 kids out with you over a blind crest at 130kms/h in a stupid dangerous overtaking on a blind crest

No excuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No defending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just plain stupidity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 3 to 5 seconds it would have taken to slow down a tad & wait till it was safe to overtake would be the "RIGHT" thing to do, simple as that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watto`s right, & I`m damn right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JEWISH OFFICIAL: Matthias, son of Deuteronomy of Gath.
MATTHIAS: Do I say 'yes'?
STONE HELPER #1: Yes.
MATTHIAS: Yes.
OFFICIAL: You have been found guilty by the elders of the town of uttering the name of our Lord, and so, as a blasphemer,...
CROWD: Ooooh!
OFFICIAL: ...you are to be stoned to death.
CROWD: Ahh!
MATTHIAS: Look. I-- I'd had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, 'That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah.'
CROWD: Oooooh!
OFFICIAL: Blasphemy! He's said it again!
CROWD: Yes! Yes, he did! He did!...
OFFICIAL: Did you hear him?!
CROWD: Yes! Yes, we did! We did!...
WOMAN #1: Really!
[silence]
OFFICIAL: Are there any women here today?
CROWD: No. No. No. No...
OFFICIAL: Very well. By virtue of the authority vested in me--
[CULPRIT WOMAN stones MATTHIAS]
MATTHIAS: Oww! Lay off! We haven't started yet!
OFFICIAL: Come on! Who threw that? Who threw that stone? Come on.
CROWD: She did! She did! He did! He! He. He. Him. Him. Him. Him. He did.
CULPRIT WOMAN: Sorry. I thought we'd started.
OFFICIAL: Go to the back.
CULPRIT WOMAN: Oh, dear.
OFFICIAL: Always one, isn't there? Now, where were we?
MATTHIAS: Look. I don't think it ought to be blasphemy, just saying 'Jehovah'.
CROWD: Oooh! He said it again! Oooh!...
OFFICIAL: You're only making it worse for yourself!
MATTHIAS: Making it worse?! How could it be worse?! Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!
CROWD: Oooooh!...
OFFICIAL: I'm warning you. If you say 'Jehovah' once more--
[MRS. A. stones OFFICIAL]
Right. Who threw that?
[silence]
Come on. Who threw that?
CROWD: She did! It was her! He! He. Him. Him. Him. Him. Him. Him.
OFFICIAL: Was it you?
MRS. A.: Yes.
OFFICIAL: Right!
MRS. A.: Well, you did say 'Jehovah'.
CROWD: Ah! Ooooh!...
[CROWD stones MRS. A.]
OFFICIAL: Stop! Stop, will you?! Stop that! Stop it! Now, look! No one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle! Do you understand?! Even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say 'Jehovah'.
CROWD: Ooooooh!...
[CROWD stones OFFICIAL]
WOMAN #1: Good shot!
[clap clap clap]

Here's another tilt on the speeding police thing. Watto, you will know these roads like the back of your hand.

Last week I had to go to work early, like at 2.45am and I was sprung for not stopping at a stop sign. The intersection is Melaluka Rd and the Geelong/Portarlington Rd. I could tell you all about it but would take a long time.........the police car that pulled me over would have had to be going at approx 160 through a residential/rural area to catch up with me - plus.....he pulled me over 3 km after the event..........go figure that folks.
